Howdy! I found this site b/c I was google searching Hitachi jets #40 #41. I was looking for jets for my HSC40 carb (on my 82 XV920). I don't own a XJ bike and i didn't realize this when I emailed Len (Chacal) to ask if he still had the jets and what the price was (the thread that came up on google was a year or so old).
After Len emailed me back i realized these were for XJ bike and not XV bikes, I emailed him back and said i was sorry if i wasted his time. Len looked up the part numbers and compared diagrams (without me asking him too) and told me the part numbers for the main jets were the same, but the part numbers for the pilot jets were different, however the mains and pilots on his XJ bikes were the same dimensions (you could swap them if you wanted to) so if that was true on my XV then it might work. I said I'd give it a go and see what happened (the jets on the XV are swappable, i did it once on accident and got a REALLY rich idle). Well... that was two days ago, I emailed him first three days ago, today I got my jets in the mail and haven't installed them yet, but i'll be shocked if they don't work, i did a visual comparison to a bad set of jets i had laying around and they look identical, all the way down to the thread count.
Bottom line, Len's customer service is AMAZING. He went out of his way to see if he had a product that would work for me or not and then got that product to me asap. His shipping and hanlding charge was only $2 more than it actually cost him to mail the package, and considering that he has to take time to pull the part from wherever he's storing it and then drive to the post office, i say that the shipping was well under what i would consider a reasonable price.
Oh, and his price for the jets was half of what i could find anywhere else. The next cheapest place I had found (which i had ordered them from 3 weeks ago and they still hadn't shipped them or responded to my emails, or picked up their phone when i called) was going to cost me about $10 more with all the shipping and stuff included... I wish i had stumbled across Len's thread on this site 3 weeks ago, i'd be riding today instead of typing this out!
Thanks Len!
Also, I'm going to post this over on Virago Tech were i am a member so they know to come here should they need a part for an XJ bike or a jet for their XV!

The similarities between the two bikes is uncanny... Ive got an 82 xv920 and 82 maxim.. i have swapped wheels, forks, brake components.. a lot of stuff.. lots of the parts seem identical (rear virago brake is a little bigger)
That doesn't surprise me, and it makes parts easier to find, so im not complaining

just received my parts. good prices and an awsome selection of OE replacement and aftermarket parts. could have ordered from Jcwhitney but i'd have gotten universal aftermarket and wasn't even sure if that was right. Thanks for the help Len.

Just got my main and pilot jets from Len yesterday, installed this morning, and it acts like a new bike! Thanks Len for the awesome customer service and FAST shipping. If only every vendor was like this!
Thanks again
Dustin

Len has the best shop on the market. He will help you through any problem. And as for the shipping it does not get any faster. Len is one hell of a guy.
Thanks,
Joshua

Len, I received my package yesterday. Right on the money with the two-day shipping. I'll catch ya next time on the difference in shipping. Looks like I owe you a couple bucks. I've got the master cylinder rebuilt and am waiting for the sealant to cure before I hang it on the bike. That little replacement crystal window for the sight glass is awesome! Going to be a busy day working on the bike.
The wife's excited about her new gas cap for her bike, too.
Thanks, Len. And, as always, great job!

I was a little embarrassed to be putting an order together that really wasn't much more than an odd collection of screws and bolts, I was worried that I was wasting Len's time!
But nothing but incredibly fast and polite correspondence! And how great was it to get a small box filled with shiny screws in tiny bags perfectly labeled, and to have each one fit perfectly!
Thanks so much!

Chacal comes through again! Fastest cross country shipper I've ever dealt with.
My only concern is that I paid less for shipping than the label says it cost. I wonder how he manages to keep that up.

Just received the chrome front fender from Chacal. He was right, it is NEW, not NOS. It is a beauty and got here fast. Awsome job Len!

Len, you're a miracle worker. I placed my order on Friday, and here it is, Monday afternoon, and I've got my new fuel line, vacuum line, in-line filter, clamps, and rear brake shoes. Everything looks great - can't wait to get home to the bike and get to work! Thanks!

1982 XJ550RJ, K&N 2-1 air filters, aftermarket 4-to-1 exhaust with megaphone muffler. 37k+ on the odometer
-------
DONE: New Pirelli Sport Demon tires; new K&N 2-to-1 air filters (bike was podded when I got it); cleaned out the instrument cluster, new bulbs + LEDs for the tach and speedo; vacuum and fuel lines replaced; in-line fuel filter added; new chain and sprockets; new rear brake shoes; new clutch cable; new starter relay.
-------
NEED TO DO: Not quite as much as before...rebuild the MC and front caliper and replace the front brakes; install an actual fuse box; eventually (when I have more room to work) clean the carbs; repaint EVERYTHING... |
