Would it cause my bike any problems or malfunctions if I replaced the resistor plug caps with non-resistor caps? It seems to me that it would mean a more powerful spark, or am I totally missing something here?

Hmm ive been considering this myself. Did you split the coils apart to slice the wires Polock or just did it as close to the coils as possible? Also did you solder the wire together?

    Sorry for the hijack btw.

i used the stem of a steel pop rivet, filed each end to a point, cut the old wire
1/2 the length of the pin plus 1/4 inch or so and pushed the pin into the old wire half way
measure the new wire, slide on 2 pieces of heat shrink tube, one as long as the pin one 1/2 inch shorter, short one first then long one, push the pin into the new wire
smear some super glue around the joint and over the wires, slide on the heat shrink and heat it, then do the shorter heat shrink, no need to glue it
put some grease on the pin and it follows the wires right in
i used Accel copper wires (yellow) for a V8 and did two bikes for about $20

I just finished doing a resistorectomy on my plug caps.

Unscrewed the inside part that goes on the plug, removed the spring and the resistor, cut a piece of brazing rod the same length as the resistor and reinstalled it along with the spring.

Now I get the same resistance (12.2 k) with the plug caps on the wires that I get when I measure resistance through just the wires.

Now if I can ever find the shims I need to finish this valve job I'll be good to go!
