1981 XT500. Just picked it up today. Has been sitting in a shed for 3 years. Prior to that it was a daily rider (guy just stopped riding). This will be my commuter :D

those are fun bikes, i had one back in the day, mine was the TT
made it street legal and went Harley hunting :)
they used to make a guide plate that went on three bolts around the counter shaft sprocket that would hold the chain from eating the case if it should jump
    that would be easily makeable
power band starts as soon as you kick it
i still have the shop manual should you need any scans tt/xt 500 c&d

The exhaust valve was stuck open when I got it (from sitting for so long in our humid climate), so I had to pull the motor and do a top end re-build....and put new rings in while I was there. Anyway it still owes me less than $1K (AUD) and these things are starting to get rare over here so I'm pretty happy

Oh yeah - some interesting mods by the PO

Well, no need for a bolt on the gear lever with welding like that.....

She's getting there. Next is fork seals, road tyres (it will be my commuter) and then it should be ready to go back on the road.

I must say I am impressed with how simple and easy this bike is to work on
