Took pods off my maxim x and put air box back on

    I have a 85 x that I bought that did not run and broke the air box taking the carbs off so I put the pods on and fiddled with the jets to get it running. I thought it ran good till someone on here asked me if I rode an x with the stock set up.It got me thinking,witch I don't do very often but glad I did.The people on here know alot more than I do and all said pods suck,well they do.So I bought another air box and some new air box to carb rubbers and put the stock jetting in and it ran so much better.The idle was smooth and reved out fast past redline with no load on the motor.It has a much stronger and longer power band and I can now feel that 7000rpm burst of power that I here about on these bikes.JUST SAY NO TO PODS.

    Glad to hear it - this willfire up some debate but oh well. Who would have thunk the guys who engineered these bikes would know better?

    Where did you find the airbox? I have been looking but can't seen to find one that is complete and not broke. I'll agree about the pod filters.

    Found it on ebay,type in yamaha maxim x. They go for about $40 bucks. I have some pods for sale CHEAP.
