[align=left]I live in beautiful Las Vegas, and spend 1/2 my time two up in heavy traffic, on my 81 seca 750. City streets, metered on-ramps, and 20 seconds between stop and go. First gear seems almost too steep to be practical. I've got to buzz the motor a little like 3000 then let off of the gas to keep from wheeling. at green lights. I weigh 215, my girlfriend weighs 275. I love the mid range and don't mind buzzing the motor 8 grand + on occasion but I'm not too happy with the top gear ratio either, 5 grand at 70 mph is ok but I really don't wish to buzz it harder than that needlessly or for far. (I live in the desert remember).

The best soultion I can think of is to use a 16" maxim rear wheel to reduce the effective gear ratio in the lower gears, if it will fit, but I'd like to have an overdrive sort of as well, can the rear wheel be swappped Is my first question and can the maxim 5th gear be swapped is the second question. Are there still new gears available would most likely be the next.

And hey, that guy from New Zealand seems to know alot about the police spls. I'd like to know more also, especially in regards to parts interchangeability and the little nuances that make it special.

3K-6K rpm is pretty much the sweet spot for an XJ engine. These engines are made to turn high revs. And yes, they really start to pull at 3K. At 6K it should act like they just hit the button on the catapult.

If you want low revs you need to be thinking something with a longer stroke like a V4 or (heaven forbid!) a Vtwin.

Padre, you seem to want a lower first gear AND a taller fifth gear ?
Gearing was one of the first things I looked up on this site.
Installing the Maxim rim gives you about 8% lower gearing.
Installing the "middle gear" set from a Seca 900 gives you 8% taller overall. A skilled machinist could cut a special gear set. They do this on the Concourse Forums- - somebody custom makes a 7 speed !! He has sold 50 of them, and they are bulletproof.
