"DOT" PMJ341 on my front tire. Could this mean 34th week of 1981?

The bike is a 1982, had 5800 miles on it when I got it and looked nearly new. Could these be the original tires? They are cracked between the threads and a little on the sidewalls. I have new spitfires ready to go before I go over 40mph again.

In 2000 manufacturers were required to standardize on a four digit code indication week (first 2 digits) and year (last two digits) of manufacture.

Anything else was made prior to 2000 and the codes are manufacturer specific.

Whatever it means, it's too old.

They very well could be the original tires. I've seen a lot of old bikes listed with "original tires, still lots of tread left" like it was a selling point.

Carl is 100% right, that smells of a pre-Y2K date code. If so, they gotta go. (Move over, Johnny Cochran.)

    Modern date codes:
