    Hi all,

Ran a search and couldn't find the answer. Just finished the fork seals/brake pads on my xs400j and can't find the torque value for the lower (17mm hex) fork pinch bolt. It appears the manual specs maybe refer to 14ft lbs? Saw someone else mention 17ft lbs? Just seems like not enough, especially when the 12mm uppers are also torqued to 14. Any help appreciated...thanks!

Welcome !! - - let's not quibble over 3 foot pounds. Oil it and go for 15 ft lbs for now. Did you inspect your rear brake shoes??

Thanks for the reply. Not really curious if 14 or 17 is correct, just want to be sure the correct number isn't, oh, say 45ft. lbs. Rear brake shoes and tire waiting in a box right next to me for sprockets and chain to arrive. Good times will be had by all.

    Factory 400 book says 14 ft/lb.
