I saw an add on Ithaca NY craigslist that read "XS1100". I clicked on it, and it said the bike was free to the first person to show up (that was me, luckily). All the parts that aren't on the bike were included, and the bike has a clear title that the owner signed over. It is rough now, but I have started with much worse. It has just under 24,000 miles. Not to bad for free. I tried to negotiate with him, but he wouldn't budge on the price...

A quick wash and you'll be ready to....take it apart some more :)

The price is right you couldn't resist.
Heck, you could make 3000% profit if you parted it out

I can't believe you beat Dave Fox to that one. He can usually smell a good bike deal from 30 miles away.

even comes with a fairing and crash bars!!

    nice score

and technically mike, since it was free, if he sold it for $1 that would be over 1,000,000,000% profit

    but then there's gas fees

No parting this bike out. Gotta lose the rack, fairing, and that hideous seat. The fact that it has clear title and all the parts (except the key and battery) makes it worth saving. The carbs were just recently removed from the bike for cleaning, and the guy just lost interest.

If you are going to loose the backrest, I need it for my XS1100. I would be interested in any parts you aren't going to reuse. The bike looks good, if you have the carbs if doesn't look like it will take much to get it running.

Nice find. Looks like a 79 standard. Hope you got the airbox and the side covers with it. Carbs are no big deal on these and anything you need to know is on the XS11.com website

Thanks, wingnut325. All of the missing parts are in boxes in the shed. Do you know if the speedo comes apart like the xj 650 Maxim's does? The gauges are perfect except for a cob web, and a dead spider under the glass (DOH!). Oh, you are right, it is a 79 standard.

The speedo can be taken apart but its not as easy as on a XJ. I've had mine apart but it was years ago. If I remember there is a little priing involved. Do a search on the XS site and you will come up with a procedure. I think it was one of our resident gurus by the name of TC that did the write up.

Great find, I too had one like that. Saw an ad on Craigslist for a seca turbo for sale for 200 bucks. I call and leave a message for him. He calls back two weeks later and asks when can I pick it up. I ask him how much he wants for it. He asks me again when I can pick it up. He say's I'm giving it to you, you were the only one that called. I ask him what time is good for him :) Best part is I get the bike back home, now its been sitting for several years, many of them in Arizona and the plastic was shot. The battery has a hole in it. But the best part was that it had the 5 gallon fuel tank, the larger forks and the motor only has 7000 miles on it!!. Yup I scored!!! Too bad I am slowly parting that bike out to keep mine running. Just switched motors last week since mine got stuck in first gear.. still not bad for me putting 40,000 miles on her in a year and a half.

Nice score man, dont worry though it would of went to a good home if you didnt pick it up because it would'a been mine! After emailing the guy in Ithaca around 9:00pm on friday he informed me that he gave you first dibs to get it saturdat, and if you didnt want it I could have it... I was praying that who ever it was would'a been scared off after seeing all those partin in the boxes. If you lose interest in the project let me know I will be over in a jiffy to get it! GL with it, I hope to see and chat with you over at Channel 11. :D

P.S. It ruined my weekend when I realized I wasnt getting it btw... enjoy her.

Dave, I still have the 700x rear wheel, and various 650 Maxim parts. How did that frame work out for you?
