I've got new pads, rebuilt calipers, and smooth rotors. I did the pad chamfer trick and have ridden long enough to seat them but they still squeal when applying the brakes. Anything else I can do?

Some brake pads have a shiny plate on the back of one, make sure that side is towards the piston, it an anti-rattle, anti- squeal device. Not sure if it applies to your bike as you didn't say which one.

    Pull the Pads.
"Chamfer" the Edges of the Pads.

Chamfer means "Round-off the Square Edges.
When the Square Edges of the New Pads contact the roatating Brake Disc ... Unless the Pads are Chamfered ... they will Howl.

    I have done hundreds.
    I used to Sand them.
Now, that the Material is a harder Metallic.

Take them to the Grinder and remove the Edge ... putting a rounded-off, blunt surface on the edge of the Pads.

I once used a product called "Anti squeal" which you sprayed on the back of the pads - it was like a rubbery coating.

You could try some copaslip on the back of the pads?

    Thanks for the responses.

Maxim-X, mine does not have those plates.

Rick, I did chamfer the pads on my belt sander. Nice smooth edge just like the picture.

Markie, I may try that if nothing else works.

I did notice when I assembled the calipers that the spring metal piece that mounts above the pads didn't seem to do a whole lot. That is they weren't pushing on the pads that much, if at all. Do they have anything to do with brake squeal?
