I am having a hard time locating jets for my XJ700. They are 40 pilot & 107 mains w/washers. They are mikuni carbs. Can you help me out?

Does your XJ700 have an air-cooled model or a water-cooled engine?

Because the #107 size main fuel jets are the correct size for the air-cooled 700's, which used Hitachi carbs......but these models used a 36.5 pilot fuel jet.

Water-cooled XJ700 models did use Mikuni carbs, and did use a #40 pilot fuel jet, but never used a #107 main fuel jet!

Yes, my bike is air cooled, the Yamaha dealer figured they were mikuni carbs but I think they are not as they can't even find the jets. The jets in the carbs are 107 & 40 marked on them, I took 1 set out to show the dealer and left them in my truck council. A week later my wife cleaned the truck and the jets got tossed. I sure hope you can help me out as I would sure like to get the bike back on the road before the snow flies again. Thanks

Yes, the air-cooled XJ700 models did use Hitachi carbs, and the correct jetting for those carbs is listed below. We do have the correct jets (air and fuel) that you need.

    XJ700 Models:

    Years & Models: 1985-6 XJ700 air-cooled models
    Carb Manufacturer: Hitachi
    Carb Series: HSC33
1985 Carb Model ID: 1FG00 (N models) or 1JJ00 (NC models)
1986 Carb Model ID: 1NH00 (S models) or 1NK00 (SC models)
    Main FUEL Jet Size: #107
    Pilot FUEL Jet Size: #36.5
    Main AIR Jet Size: #70
    Pilot AIR Jet Size: #210
AIR COMPENSATOR Jet Size: not used
Starter FUEL Jet Size: #36 (non-replaceable, in float bowl)
    Main jet NEEDLE ID: #Y-20
Main needle JET Size: #3.2mm (the main needle JET is also known as the "power valve" or "emulsion tube").
    Fuel Level in float bowls: 1.0mm +/- 1mm (.039" +/- .039")
    Idle RPM's: 1,050 rpms

Although not part of your carbs, your valve clearances should be considered as part of your "intake system", so here are those specs, too. Note that valve clearances should be measured with the engine "cold", meaning 70-degrees Fahrenheit or less:

    Valve Clearance Intake: 0.11 - 0.15mm ( = 0.004 - 0.006")
    Valve Clearance Exhaust: 0.16 - 0.20mm (= 0.006 - 0.008")

That's perfect, let me know how to order these parts, also I may need a coil, when I last started the bike, before the carbs were takin off, 1 & 4 were not firing. I have a legends car as well, & might have to get some tech tips on the engine for a little more power. Would like to go to Charlotte next year if they run the Legends Million race again and maybe get a step ahead of one of our racers from my area that did very well in the race they had a couple weeks back. Anyhow, just let me know the price on the parts for my Maxim I need, & we can arrange to get them sent out. Thanks alot, I appreciate your knowledge on XJ's.
