Well, for the most part, the cosmetics are completed. Paint coming sometime between now and spring. NOt too bad of a transformation, if I do say so myself. More pics in my gallery. Here's the before and after. Guess I could have taken some better pictures, but oh well.

Looks great so far, keep us posted!

It dosen't fling mud if you don't ride through any. The slash cut pipes were on the bike when I got it. I need a jet kit to compensate for the pods, and I am looking to buy a colortune sometime soon.

Well looks good, and probably has a nice roar when you are in the top half of the tach.

Logged some miles today, lots of lookers and I was pleased to catch them looking. I do need to change the seat and remove the coil springs though. My weight kept sliding me forward into the tank, not a good feeling. I really dont need them, it's not like I'm on a rigid...

Hey man, our bikes look very similar lol. Do you have a better side profile shot? Maybe out in the sun.

Pretty cool, I need to make a new seat for mine. After like 20-30 min it gets very uncomfortable. How is the ride on that seat?

Just as I can't relate to having my bike look *exactly* like the other 5000 that just rolled off the line. To each his own, indeed.

Hey Kevin. I was born and raised in central Ohio. I sure do miss getting drunk as hell in the bars on the short north. I saw a helluva lot of cool bands at places like the Newport. I've no idea what it might be called now or if it's even still there. Ahhhh, memories.

Who mounted that front tire on your bike? Looks to me like it's on backwards. Am I wrong?

Yes, it's backwards, the PO did it. I have a new one coming. I really didn't want to turn it around for a few weeks worth of riding, when I would be getting a new one anyways.

As for Columbus, the Shorth North is in a revitilization of sorts, new everything cropping up everywhere. The Newport is still there, but there are new venues drawing crowds now downtown in the arena district. South campus and basically everything from 15th (Long's bookstore) south to King Ave. has been leveled and rebuilt over the past 10 years. Sad really, it's totally unrecognizable, and that's where I learned to get REAL drunk. AAAAHHHHH the memories is right.

Rebuild is in full swing, I've unintentionally been documenting it pretty well. More in my gallery, and more to come...

I originally wasn't planning on pulling the engine, but my buddy came to help with this&that, and 12 beers later the frame was bare. Since then I've made quite a bit of progress on reassembly. I'm waiting on new carb boots and digital gauges to arrive, but other than that I have everything to get her back on the road. I'm converting to a dual headlight set up, and need to do some harness work/mods, new signals, and assorted other crap. I've got a lot of work ahead of me still. here's as she sits right now, 12/28.

Whatever you do, don't stop showing us pics of the progress. For some reason, I've always loved yellow/black scheme on vehicles. It makes the bare metal look great.

By the way, where did you get the braided brake line from? Did you just replace the brake line only?

You got a GREAT project going. I really appreciate it when I can see how the work is progressing.

Do the math before you plug-in two head-lights. The headlight circuit can be a "Sleeper" of a problem that has a nasty way of breaking the news that it's overloaded.

My advise would be to calculate the various load situations that two headlamps can bring into play. You might need to do some creative switching to prevent both headlamps coming-on with High-Beam.

The usual path to disaster begins with running an aftermarket bulb with more watts for more light. The stock fuse blows every now and then. The fuse gets "Upped-a-notch" to prevent the occasional blow-out ...

    It's all down-hill from there ...

Normally, the alternator brushes take a beating and burn-out real fast causing electrical system nightmares. Although, there are a couple of sad stories that ended with a snowy white cloud of CO2, dissipating, to reveal a hard-works dream-come-true, gone-up in smoke.

I have the ElectroSport 2800 digital gauge on order. The braided lines are not real, they're the slip over the existing cable type. My wife picked them up for me somewhere, and they don't look too awful. Pretty easy to install. Thanks Rick for the input on the headlights. I'm gonna hook 'er up and see if any problems arise, hopefully not. If so, I know I've got a team here with all the knowledge to get it right. Thanks for all the positive input, fellas, I'll keep the pics coming. And here's another pic with the pipes on and some of the side covers mounted back up.

Awesome, I like the pipe wrap. Is there a reason you went with white instead of black?

I like that speedo a lot. Could you do me a favor and take a front on shot so I can see it better. I looked everywhere I could think and only found that bad angle shot.

I'll prob get it sometime next year, however I don't know if it is big enough to see easily, its only 64mm across the face. Would you give me your opinion after you have it on your bike?

Yeh, I just like the way the white looks, and there's gonna be plenty of black. In fact a lot of that yellow will be covered up by the black tank. I havent recieved my speedo yet, I'm waiting patiently for the ups man. When it does come, I'll post up some shots.

Been working on the wiring harness, it's really not my favorite thing to do, so I do a little and move to something else for a while then go back to it. Other things like getting the tank prepped for painting and cleaning the garage up a bit. Today I made some struts and mounted them. Lowered the rear 3 inches from stock height, and the front 3/4 of an inch. We'll see how it rides after I remount the coil springs on the seat. The kickstand sets the bike near vertical with the bike that low, so I'll be strageticly parking for the most stable spot. Nothing was cut or welded, so I can always switch back to the stock shocks. We'll see how it goes. I'm still waiting for a front tire and carb boots to arrive. More pics in my updated gallery.

Mounted up headlights, new gauges, new carb boots, and put the carbs back on, new grips, mirrors. Decided to pick up a new/used harness, I found it less of a headache than repairing what the PO had "modified". After that, I'll be ready to ride! Oh, and finish up the tank, and do some paint touchup. And carb sync/colortune. So by my estimate we should have 18 inches of snow next week sometime.

    Kevin, awsome project!!
Just noticing the straight pipes..... yep they look great and probably sound that way too!
Did you change out jets or anything else on your carbs?
Sorry not trying to sound critical just curious.

Hey Kevin.. Mean bike... I like it, not sure I would have gone yellow.. But still looks mean...

Anyway I have a frame that's been chopped in exactly the same place as yours and i'm wondering if the rear gaurd is an original and how you fitted it?

    Cheers

the pipes were on it when I bought it. I put pods on, and have not yet changed the jetting. To be honest, the only thing I notice that would make me want to rejet is a very slight sluggishness off the line. Above 2500 or so RPM, it's like butter. I just got a Colortune, and once it's all back together I'm gonna sync and colortune and see if that helps, if not I'll rejet. Fro all I know the PO may have rejetted for the pipes. I rode maybe 5 miles on it before I put on the pods, so I don't know how it ran with the stock airbox. We'll see, I have a few months to get that all straightened out. And yes, the pipes sound GREAT!

Alive, it is the stock rear fender, rotated around and mounted to the frame with the existing mounting holes and 2 more for strength. It fit with no alterations to the fnder other than the 2 additional mounting holes.

I thought you might have done that... Looks good too.

Did you have to modify the frame to attach it? Drill holes or add bolts?

I did drill holes in the frame to mount it. Not really large enough to impact the structural integrety. I hope.

    Kevineleven,
I am doing the same as you are (750 Seca) and like your ideas too.
It really makes for shorter, cleaner looking scoot for sure. After getting rid of all that plastic on the back and tha god awful ugly square headlight/driving light, I replaced them with a round headlight (from a Suzuki I think) I can start to live with it now!
I've been riding mine to work for the past 5 years, and never did really like the seating position, so I decided to make forward controls, like my Shadow has and make 6" risers for my bars, which made it more "ridable" for me.
I'm still not done fabricating and hope to have it all buttoned up by spring. Chop what you got! >PD<

Well, I woke up to about 3 inches of snow today. I decided to work on the bike a bit, and before I know it, she's back in riding condition. I threw a bit of gas in her and with a minimal amount of choke, VVVVRRRRrrrrooooom!!! She fired right up and in 28 degree weather no less! The new carb boots must have done the trick, it was hard to get 'er going before without a bit of starting fluid. Cant wait to Colortune. Anyways, here's a picture. can't wait for the snow to melt. I have a bunch of little things i can work on till then.

Hey Kevineleven. Looks great. Would you take a pic of the way you laid out your battery and electrical area? I'm going to pod mine before long and when I do I'm going to re-arrange mine. I'm not trying to copy you just currious as to what works. Are you running a 130 tire? I think I may have found a way to remove the houseing for the drive shaft and still seal the gearing from debri so that I can go for a wider tire like a 140 to 150 depending on the space it gives me.

I swung my battery around 90 degrees and the wiring for now is just "in there". I'll have to secure and route it better some time before riding season begins. I am running stock size tires, and they are both new so I'm not looking to change any time soon. I'd still be interested in the mod though. As for the exhaust, I don't know what brand it is, but it's a basic 4 into 2, slashcut pipes, with heat wrap on them. Sounds KILLER.

I hopped on and rode a whopping 0.6 miles today, mainly to test out the speedometer since there is no snow on the road. I reached a speed of 30.1 MPH and after a slight adjustment to the sensor, it seems to be working fine. I'm really stoked on it, but 30 was as fast as I could go due to the excrutiating cold. The suspension dosent seem horrible, although I only rode for 5 minutes and at low speed. For some reason it feels like I'm riding a toy. With all the clutter up front gone it just felt weird. C'mon springtime!

I have not clearcoated the black yet, but i have 2 cans of Krylon matte finish clearcoat waiting to go on. I'm going to wait for some nicer weather to get on that, I work in an unheated garage.
