Guys, I was wondering if anybody has references or links to help me determine how similar these bikes are. Specifically, I'm looking at the important items to salvage like carbs, 4 to 2 exhaust or other important functionaries. Think it's worth a try?? thanks in advance

That looked like too nice of a bike to part out. Don't think any GS and XJ parts are direct swap. I'm sure you could make some of them work if you wanted to modify.

Shockingly LITTLE interchanges between the 4 Japanese bikes of those years. Maybe "standard" items like nuts and bolts, spark plugs, wheel bearings, seals, etc. But otherwise, nearly nothing, unless it's just a fluke, like, say, a 1982 GS650 triple clamp will interchange with a 1979 Honda CB650 clamp, but nothing else between those two bikes will....

However, that being said, with suitable fabrication efforts, nearly anything can be made to fit anything else, eventually.

    Just my two cents.

I may be mistaken, but I thought Schooter got some Honda carbs to work on his XJ. But I don't know how much trouble it was.

okay thanks guys. I've come to the conclusion that I can't have a second bike around anyhow, & since most parts are not interchangable I find no need to pay for parts sitting around. hopefully the bike goes to someone with serious interests though
