Alright, I hope to get pics on here shortly, but my wife lost my USB chord. I'm currently having electrical problems with the bike. I bought the bike without an ignition so I just got one today. I got it on and then hooked up the battery to my trickle charger to get it ready to start. The battery was perfectly charged, but as soon as I put the charger on, the gauges lit up and then when I went to start it up, the bike just buzzes and the oil level light turns on. The bike is in neutral so it should start if all else is well. The bike does need a clutch cable which I'll be putting on shortly and clutch linkage which I have as well. I just figured as long as it's in neutral it should still start without having that stuff on there. The other thing that I was told is that he previous owner put too much oil in the bike because he didn't know how to check it. Also, when my trickle charger is not on there it gives me absolutely nothing. Kinda strange since the battery appears fully charged when I put the trickle charger on there. Anyway...any suggestions?

    Just in case...
The bike (by default) won't start with the side kickstand down.

Other than that you'll have to wait for the experts

I dont think it matters on the XJ, but my Kwaka doesnt start unless I hold in the clutch.

    Just throwing out an idea.

K, thanks, I did try getting the kickstand up while starting which didn't help unfortunately. I'll try to get the clutch cable in and see if holding the clutch will help. I'm used to Honda bikes because I had an 82 Nighthawk 750 and a 83 Goldwing 1100 before, and there are some definite differences I'm seeing already. No problem, I'll get her running, I just was hoping to do so before that white stuff starts blowing!

Alrighty, I determined that the bike needed a new battery after all. Now I can hear the starter turning but I'm getting nothing. My guess is no fuel to the spark plugs, but I haven't had a chance to check yet.

[IMG] Here's the beginning of the bike. Hopefully this will look a WHOLE LOT different when I'm done with it.

Well first things first...get the bike running. Then I hope to get a ride in before end of the season here. This winter I plan on ripping then engine out and repainting everything. Then I'm still trying to decide if I want to do an entire engine overhaul. I'm going to have to strip down some parts on the engine too because like everything else on this bike it got a bad amatuer paint job. I am also going to be removing the rear grab bar and probably making the thing into a bobber. I still have to decide if I want to cut the seat pan down into a single seater or just shave the seat down and keep it two. I think there's too much going on at the back side of the bike. I'll also be replacing the tank since the one I have has a small hole in it and is leaking a little bit.

Don't expect a "Trickle-Charger" to do the work needed to really Charge the Battery.

You need to hit that Battery with at least 4 - 6 Amps and "Cycle" the charging in intervals of 15-Minutes ON letting the Electro-chemical process develop a DEEP Charge.

    15 Minutes ON
    20 Minutes Off
    X 1-1/2 Hrs.

Pull the Caps. Cover the Top with a damp shop rag. No Smoking the Batt will gas and release Hydrogen Gas.
