Since I have th front end in bits I decided to dismantle th Atari to see if I could repaint th inner metal shroud around th dials but it seems to be glued in.Th layers from riding point of view are;plastic body, glass, metal shroud, then inner plastic piece to hold th metal and glass in place.
Th problem is th inner plastic piece is glued in, seems I'll break it before it will come out. Anyone know any tricks for this?? Th actual gauge faces are like new. Yeah yeah, apart from different gauges.

Yes, that plastic frame will break when you remove it. Who cares? glue it back together as you put it back in. I did that to mine for the same reason -- to re-spray that mask/shroud thing. I just pieced it back together the best I could and used two-part epoxy as I re-assembled it.

It also helps to put some rubber cement around the edge of the glass piece and let it cure slightly before you re-assemble it. This will make the face of the Atari slightly more water-resistant, so you don't have to worry about condensation building up inside after you wash your bike or get caught in a rain.

"Break it and remove it"..the plastic inner frame..that worked well.. four cuts with wire side cutters and some levering with a long narrow screwdriver, creating contolled breaks. Sandpapered th cuts smooth, painted th shroud and glued it together, good as new
