Well, I had been getting my ex-boss's '80 XJ but that eventually fell through but I've kept an eye out and finally found something :). No serious issues with it at all :).

Now I just have to get it home, it's an hour away right now and way to cold to try riding it back, lol.

Wow! Very nice. I love the faring setup and the paint looks in good shape. Nice find and wish you the many happy miles.

before you ride check your rear brake for delamination, it can be fatal

good one Fitz er... uh... Schooter

them fairings aint my cup of tea but to each their own. Anything to keep the wind off IS a big help in the cold. That one get's plusses from me for the replacement (on bar) master cylinder and reservoir.

i like the color scheme looks real nice. I am not a big fan of the fairing but thats just me something about a sport bike with a huge fairing does not seem right to me. But the factory fairing looks good on them i guess its because they are not quite as large

Those old Vetter fairings aren't much for looks, I agree, but they do give a very good level of protection for sure. For early morning commutes to work in cold weather, they serve their purpose just right. And with the optional radio housing, it's even more enjoyable. That's a good find and you'll have fun on it.

Your right i am sure they are great on cool morning or commuting. I ride for the fun of it. Most of the time its warm here in Ga. I do not have to commute anymore since i retired. I grew up in Fl it was always hot there and the wind felt good. I moved to Ga in 01. Atlanta Traffic is terrible its not enjoyable to commute in it. So when i did ride to work it was for fun most of the time i would look at the bike and the svt lightning just jump in the truck relax for the hour 22 mile commute plus working 12-18 hr shifts just was nicer .
Like i said have nothing against them they are nice in the winter but to hot in the 90+ days here in the summer

Thanks for the nice comments :). I can't wait till it is warm enough for me to get on the road with it :D

@Metal_Bob I'm a bitch, not a bastard, LOL. I don't care how good that fairing will be, I'm not taking a ride in 15F weather, hehe, no way.....

For some reason my phone took an awesome picture of this bike. It looks better there than in person. It has just over 23,000 miles on it and, as I'm sure you all can tell, has been repainted. The previous owner has already cleaned the carbs and done a bunch of other basic maintenance to it, I'll probably get a new battery for it right away though.

    I can't wait :)

Dude. It's not a joke, it's a real and very common problem and somebody could get hurt.

Have you read the whole thread? http://xjbikes.com/Forums/viewtopic/t=15874.html All the people it happened to, the couple of really close calls and scary moments?

Honestly, it should be at the bottom of EVERYONE'S signature. Any of these bikes that's sat for a period of time (and they all have) could have the condition, and there's only one way to tell.

The potential for disaster is too great; don't make light of anyone trying to warn folks about something that could wreck them, please.

oh I know. Honestly. Full lock up at speed is NO joke what-so-ever.
Don't mean we can't say with a grin.
Happiness is a choice and I for one will always choose to educate someone in an atmosphere of positive energy. (not to sound like too much of a damn hippy)

For the record, YES, if you don't check your brake shoes you are playing russian roulette.

I'm like some others I've seen on here, got a 9 digit vin on my title and had soooo much fun trying to get my insurance using the nice and easy forms online.......not. Took me two hours trying to figure out what I was doing wrong, then learned it wasn't me, hehe. I called their help line and the lady told me to just add 0's to the end of my vin to get 17 digits. Now why couldn't a help message pop up letting me know that.
