my xj650 stuck in gear

    I was taking my bike for a ride when it suddenly got stuck in first gear. limped it home and took off the side cover on the left side. All the shifting stuff looks good in there. When looking through the small hole in the side into the motor i could see a piece of black plastic. i moved it with my fingure and now it will shift again. Any thoughts on what the piece is and how i go about repairing it.

    Yes and you don't want to know.

    That was a piece of the "primary" chain guide. Yours has started to break up (they do that sometimes.)

    The only way to truly repair it is to split the cases and replace it.
