The Maxim supplement I just got (thanks fitz!) lists black and red as the colours available and yet this photo (dove grey?) matches mine perfectly, well except for scratces, bits of rust and lots of dirt.

Anyone know the original colours by year (and maybe country)?

I think it's interesting how Yamaha always gets someone who is 5' 1" and 96 pounds to be the on-bike model.

Either that, or the bikes have shrunk over the years.

It's probably Jay Gleason, who IS 5-foot-nothing and maybe 94 pounds dripping wet, or he was back in the day.

And which is also why both of my 550s are Secas. (6'5" and.. umm ..over 200lbs.) No offense, but I still wanna see LtDave ride his.

The 550 Maxims were offered in "New Yamaha Black", "New Ruby Red", "Black Blue" and "Star Silver" over the three model years' here. Can't tell you exactly which is which (although not exactly difficult to figure out) because the fiche is a "common" H-J-K model affair.

I'm 6'1 185 and probably look silly on my 550. But she's still a sweet bike.

And it's amusing, since I'm 5'2" and can only sit appropriately on mine after minor front fork adjustments and lopping almost 6" of foam off of my seat.
