Just wondering if you guys wave to other riders and how. Do you only wave to riders that wave first or do you feel that everyone that braves it out there without a cage deserves a wave. And how about you guys that drive on the wrong side of the road...wouldn't you have to let off the throttle to wave? Unless the handlebar controls are switched around like car controls are, which I've never heard of before. (Here's your chance, 750bloke, to blather some more on your quest to catch polock)

Anyway to answer my own questio...I usually wave to everyone I pass...with my arm out at about a 45 degree angle and a couple fingers out. Please wave back if you happen to pass!

I wave, same as you put your hand down low with a couple fingers out. I have found that you wave to other crusiers and never a rocket. best wave i have had though was from a moped lmao

I wave at everyone, even scooters which generally causes a look of confusion to come over their faces unless they are locals that already know me. I also ride with scooters, rockets, cruisers and enduros regularly. I wave low with a couple fingers out.

I mostly wave at every biker, except when I'm in a tight curve!

    Harley guys usually don't wave back, but I don't give a da*n.

No they're on the correct sides :D Throttle on the left would be scary! 8O

We did used to have the gear & back brake switched for a while (ask Fitz, he's got a Norton, must be "interesting" for a few miles after a switch between bikes)

And we tend to nod to one another over here rather than wave. I tend to nod to most other bikes, even L-platers, since they're the next generation of potential big-bike riders & they're still doing anywhere from 30-70mph without a cage so they're no less a biker because they're on a tiddler ;)

    Blah Blah Blah Blah........

I wave mostly all the time, unless it's dangerous.

Most wave back, about half the HD riders wave, but that's OK, I'd still stop and help them out if I saw them in need. Someone else's aloofness doesn't mean I should be bitter.

    hah hah, tiddler.

Good point, any time you see a fellow biker stopped by the side of the road looking in trouble you should always stop & check they're OK (even if you disturb someone having a piss (or is that draining their tiddler hahaha) it's better than leaving a brother biker stranded).

How many of us I wonder have "rescued" some poor silly sod that ran out of fuel, telling them "pop your tank off then" & draining a bit from your own tank into theirs? Only had to do this once (well, didn't HAVE to, but the guy was stuck) and even though he had no cash to pay for anything I went away a couple of litres lighter & with a warm glow of good karma :)
I'd like to think that acts like that get paid forward some day...

Blah.... C'mon Polock, race ya to ten grand?

Ill extend the arm low and a few fingers, to any rider I see minus mopeds/scooters/etc.

EDIT: once in a while I trip up and wave at a moped on/by accident I feel really stupid and ashamed, hahahah

And stopping for bike on the side of the road for sure

Wave at everyone. Some HD riders wave back, some don't. I imagine that the ones who wave back are decent guys (or gals) who appreciate the wave, and the ones who don't are a-holes with attitude. So either way, I've either acknowledged a decent guy or pissed off an a-hole. That's a win-win. :)

I wave at anyone.... and I'll stop for any bike on the side of the road.... even when I'm in my cage.

once I saw an out of state old biker dude/harley guy broken down on the side of the road with an impending thunderstorm about a 1/4 mile from my house. Got his bike into my garage just before it let loose... put some coffee on and had a great couple of hours :)

Two fingers out "mini-wave" if not in a corner or engaging clutch...to all bikes and scooters. I usually forego after the first wave if there is a large group heading the other way in a cluster.

Wave and nod of the head to the "iron-men" who ride in early-spring/late-fall here in Michigan...and to "rain-riders."

I always stop for riders in distress...even Harley riders.

I had a buddy that rode a 1981 XS1100 when I was on my XS850SG. I saw him coming down the road the other way for me and waved at him. He didn't wave back. I was confused because we knew each other's rides, etc. When I ran into him for some brews later on that week and I told him that he was an a55hat for not waving back, he replied with "Oh, I don't wave at old Jap bikes."

I do wave, and even sometimes pump fists if someone is willing to get my attention from the other side of the freeway. It's quite like any automotive group unless you drive a Ferrari or something. Money can't buy anything but shiny.

You've been naughty boys, you and your pals FJ111200, driving your bin lorry into the extractor fan on my local chippy & not warning them that you'd hit it. Caused a fat fire that closed the shop for a month  No chips for me till today!

Actually why am I complaining, probably done my arteries the world of good! :p

I wave at almost everyone. Squids have to wave first (most don't), everyone else seems to be in the same groove as me. I don't wave to people riding in shorts and flipflops tho, don't want to be part of their crash.

He lives local to me and works for the council emptying the bins (trash?), his truck or one of his colleagues backed a trash truck into the extractor fan at my favourite chip shop & broke it, the oil caught fire as a result and the shop only just reopened :D (that's how I know what happened, talking to the guy that runs the shop)

At the risk of hi-jacking this thread, was it a council bin truck that caused the damage or a private contractor?
If the truck was collecting rubbish from the chippy then it would have been a private contractor becuase the council sold off all the trade waste to the highest bidder a few years ago.
If it was a council truck parking up to go and buy some chips then it wasn't me, i take my own lunch to work.
And anyway, in keeping with binman tradition, i don't give a fook

If it's a like bike, then maybe a fist-pump. If it's a madass scooter, maybe a devil's horns. Others : regular biker hello. That's the way I read it.

Great responses guys! Lots of friendly riders on here! Funny how it seems to be a recurring thing about Harley snobs no matter where you are. Living in a town with a Harley plant that employs a couple thousand, hog riders really outnumber the rest. I find about 65% of them are friendly and wave. I guess the other 35% think they're "too cool" to wave to someone on a jap bike. Doesn't stop me from waving to them tho. That just proves they're not too cool...they're just being an a$$hole!

    Midnight Moose,
I live in a Harley factory town also. They ( just like us, I guess) have some 'brandism' and feel that if it ain't HD it ain't poop. . .

Like others I usually don't bother waving to the riders in shorts and bandanas regardless of their ride. On the other hand anyone I see on the mornings that are below 40 degrees and everyone that is wearing appropriate gear - always get a two fingers down wave.

We are all in this together, no one is better than the other and anything with 4+ wheels is trying to kill us. 8O

I wave at them all, about half the "tough" Harley guys wont do it back, but oh well. I guess if I dont wave I'm no better than them. Did give a special "wave" to a car last year, some on-coming idiot decided to pass a bunch of cars and go head on with me on a strait stretch of highway...now that was so far my scariest riding moment. Couldnt believe it, the idiot was on a cell phone of course

In Saint louis I waive to everything even the guys on mopeds. I actually NORMALLY get waives back from more sport bike riders than anything else. Rarely do I get a Harley to waive back.. but thats probably just because theyre still sore from me kicking their ass when they wanted to race...

I've done that special wave several times myself...along with shaking my head in total disbelief at the D-bag in the Bimmer that decided he didn't want to use the 3/4 mile long merge lane and just had to merge IMMEDIATELY into my lane! That was my first 75 mph swerve!! Luckily I saw him coming down the entrance ramp and fully expected him to try to kill me.

I make eye contact with every driver(cager or biker) and give a head nod whenever possible regardless of the vehicle I'm driving. You'll either know that the driver saw you and will respect you or that they are distracted from yammering away on their phone while applying makeup.
Ive been stuck in a car for a while so I cant wave, but I do treat bikes with extra respect. I usually ride the car along the opposite edge of my lane when passing or being passed by a bike so that they have extra space. In traffic I make it a point to follow behind bikes and give them some extra space behind. Theres nothing like having a 2-ton lincoln towncar running interference for you incase of a pile-up on the freeway.
If I'm on my bike though I do the same wave that yall do, maybe a 2-3 fingered wave. I'll try to fall into a distantly staggered pattern with them if I come up behind one to see how they react.

Think everyone must have employed the "special wave" for cagers at least once in their life (if not you're either damn lucky or don't ride enough! :D )edy's eye-contact system is a good one for judging just *how* homicidal the person next to you is.

I do what I can if in a car, leave bikes extra room & generally give 2 flashes of the left indicator (toward the kerb over here) when they're looking to overtake or filter past, to let them know I see them.

Also usually wave as I pass cars that move over for me in good time & make it obvious that they're looking out for bikes.
