Question about clear coating????

I've been working very hard to get my forks to look prefect.
I sanded with 220, 500, 1000, and I used a buffing wheel to finish the job.
They really look great!
Now for the big questions.

Will clear coat stick to these newly buffed forks?

Is there something I should use prior to clear coat? (Keep in mind I don’t want to sacrifice the nice shine I've been working so hard to get)

Hope everyone has lots of patients because I have many more questions before the bike is done.

#1 Yes, clear coat will stick.
#2 Yes, wipe the whole assembly down with a clean lint-free cloth dampened with mineral spirits or a tack cloth (available at most paint shops) to remove any oils or grease and leave a clean surface. Wear new latex or like material gloves to prevent reintroducing any contaminates with your hands.
#3 I can offer that Minwax sells a spray can polyurethane clear that works fairly well.

 

Look into having them Powder Coated in Clear.
Exceptionally durable and it will retain the shine.
Essentially it's melting clear plastic over the part.

I would love to do the Powder Coat but, sounds expensive.

 

I'd look into powder coating. It may sound expensive, but it's unbeatable. I wish i could give you a price but i've always bartered for my powder coating as a family friend owns a powder coating shop in my area. good luck.

 

I had a heating radiator from my house bead blasted and powder coated and it only cost me $125 and that included the cover.

 

I'll check around here for pricing.
