hi, i need to at the very least blast my header and buy a slip on, but the more i dig it looks like chrome header/exaust are pretty cheap on ebay; so my question is will the header/exaust 4-2 from an 81 maxim 550 fit on my 81 maxim 650? Also what exausts are interchangeable. Is there any resource where i can download a cross reference guide? Thanks guys,
    Matt :)

I check the yamaha web site to cross reference part numbers between models and years. You can also look at the parts blow up to see the parts in question, but this is not always a sure thing!

I hace found that there are not many interchangable parts between the 550 and 650/750's. Not saying it wont work but for example I measured the carb boots for interchangability and found that the head studs were different spacings and the port diameter on the heads was different.

I expect the same difference on the exhaust side.

If you can, head down to your local wrecker and see if you can do some measurements to see if they are different.
