Is this something I need to adjust.

I've noticed what appears to be some sort of bolt and jam nut. It sets just below the automatic cam tensioner, and stands vertical into the top of the engine case. I can't seem to find it in the haynes or cd. Can someone tell me what this is and should I be adjusting it? :?

You should only need to disturb this if you have pulled the timing/cam chain or slackened it. It allows the automatic adjuster to push out against the timing chain and take up slack. To adjust, take your left side cover off the crank, rotate the engine counter-clockwise two or three times, loosen the adjuster nut and back the bolt of slightly, you should hear a slight click (although if the chain is already tensioned, you won't hear a thing). Then tighten the bolt to about 4.3 ftlbs (as per the Haynes) and tighten the lock nut. That is it. This process is mentioned on in Chapter 1 Section 48, page 108 in the Haynes. Good luck!

 

Robert, you misread the ? This one is located just below the cam chain tensioner. standing vertical down into the engine case.

 

Doh! Sorry mate, I did misread your post. It is the lower bolt for the rear cam chain tensioner guide. It is mentioned on page 105 photo 46.6, but an examination of the text it referres to leads to nothing! I did find it menitoned at the end of chapter 1, section 46 paragraph 6. " Place the lower end of the guide in its recess then fit the retaining bolt and locknut. Slacken the locknut fully and screw the bolt home until it seats against the end of the guide. Back off the bolt by 1/4 of a turn and, holding it in this position, secure the locknut". Hope this makes amends for my woops. Good luck!
