An Ounce of Prevention Warnings to The Membership.

    Although there is a block of our Membership way out in front of the curve on this; there are some things we ALL MUST do to prevent a costly and time consuming breakdown.

    You absolutely should have and INLINE Fuel Filter installed. Not only to combat the recent epidemic of particulate being served-up at the Gas Pump; but to keep-out the particulate that your Fuel Tank is most likely forming and trying to send through your Petcock Filter.

    Halt the particulate BEFORE it reaches your Fuel Bowls. The tiniest amount that is allowed to pass from your Gas Tank to the Carbs will foul the Jets and render you needing to remove the Carbs and have it Cleaned-out.

    That is why INLINE FUEL FILTER becomes the Number One Owner Preventative Maintenance Item for the Forum.
    Please don't have some Bad Gas or your 25 Year Old Gas Tank distribute a fleck of matter that might ruin you riding for a few days, when an INLINE FILTER will be some insurance that the foreign matter stays out of your Carbs.

    Buy two. Carry a spare.

    Every Member is urged to inspect their Fuse Panel. The Fuse Panel's life expectancy has expired.
    If you are not one of the many who have excised their OEM Fuse Panel and installed a late model edition; you're at risk of having the Bike suddenly stop running.

    One member reported having his Main Fuse become intermittent while passing vehicles on a busy highway.
    Remove your seat and take a long, hard, look at what is between you and the traffic following you. If your Original Fuse Panel has Glass Fuses; look at the CLIPS holding the Fuses in place.

    If those CLIPS are dull-gray, discolored or obviously oxidized; you are a Member at risk of suddenly losing power, lights and rolling to a stop as if you hit the Kill Switch.

    All Members should be aware of this risk and take corrective action by either installing a New Fuse Panel, several inline fuse holders or a NEW OEM Reproduction Fuse Panel.

    The risk of Fuse Panel Failure cannot be over emphasized.

    Please install an Inline Fuel Filter and do Preventative Maintenance to your Fuse Panel, today!

    May I offer a couple suggestions?

    Standard Motor Products offers a 6-gang ATO-style fuse holder, part number FH-23, that should fit nicely...

    Primeline also offers several compact fuel filters for small engines. The one I currently use is their number 7-02357...

    The only problem with that style fuse holder is it requires significant re-wiring to make work in our bikes, as it has a common rail.
    Most are using a simple 5 or 6 circuit box with individual circuit in's on one side, and out's on the other side of each fuse.

    Altus, I didn't realize that was going to be a problem. I took a trip to work and picked up some parts to do the fix (on both, Bylsma) and will post something here when done...

    ive done the inline fuel filter just the other day. didnt make it to NAPA for the cool looking clear one but found a small translucent model at Autozone. put on new Goodyear fuel line at the same time...

    i did the fuses in 1992 right after i bought the bike. the clips were fatiqued and oxidized. i put in inline fuse holders and labled them with mailing lables wrapped around the leads. the have since been replaced with proper wire label tags...

    LtDave: I think I found the same translucent one you did; I didn't see any clear ones there, at least not in the price range mentioned.

    Howto on inline fuel filter: how hard can it be?

    1) Cut fuel line
    2) Plug one end of filter into one hole
    3) Plug other end of filter into other hole
    4) Profit!

    Whats the reason behind the clear filter?
    I assume that you would be able to see the build up going on.
    And therfore predict a nessasary replacement effiecently
    Or at least see what crap would be going into your carbs.
    *I cant spell, please cut me some slack*
