Bought an 82 Maxim last year for $700 with 19000 miles on it. It fired right up with new plugs in it. The problem is, it left me stranded. The guy left it set for 2 1/2 years with fuel in it. I found rust in the tank and pulled the carbs and cleaned them, also flushed the tank. Found a bad diaphragm(had split ring). I put some super glue on it to seal it, put the carbs back on and it doesn't want to run. If I put the choke on, it will fire and run as long as it is throttled up. But it acts like its flooding. I am planning on adjusting the floats, just as soon as I figure out how to get the rounded off drain screws out of three of four of the bowls. Ordered new diaphragm, needle valves and seats are in good shape. I didnt touch the mixture screws though. Cleaned all the other jets, and they look like new. I'm going to get an in line filter. Anyone have any ideas on how to get these drain screws loose or know where to get new ones?

Welcome cman, check out this link. It will help with where to get new screws.

As far as the screws go I drilled mine just deep enough to get an easyout in them and I was lucky enough not to mess any up. Then I re-slotted the ends.

Welcome to the forum Cman. I would recommend using reverse twist drill bits to get started with. Make very sure you proceed carefully as the passage is narrow and you don't want to bugger up anything you don't have too. Rich's link is most excellent for parts, I'm getting some soon. Another thing, have you tapped on a screwdriver inserted into the screw slots? I've done this several times and saved my bacon. It seems to fracture any crud that has dried up inside. Another option would be to flood the fuel system with Seafoam Fuel Additive/treatment. I just bought some the other day in Pep Boys. There are a number of threads here on just this sort of issue and how great Seafoam works to clear it all up. You have several options here. The other issue is the temporary repair to your slider diaphragm. Make sure it is only temporary, you will have trouble shortly if you don't. Not cheap to replace either, about $70USD. You really should just pull the carbs and rebuild/clean them given the issues your facing.
