XJ spring season check list

Let's see - this spring I'm doing a full job so:
- Engine oil & filter - including middle gear (of course)
- Rear drive gear oil
- Brake fluid -- still debating on replacing it this year, but will probably just bleed the system - need to buy me a SpeedBleeder nipple...
- Lubricate all cables
- Mine's in a garage, but if it's been stored outside lubing the moving parts is a good idea (shifter, brake levers, clutch lever, rear brake actuators, etc)
- Check tire pressures
- Check air filter/box & exhaust for debris, creepy crawlies, etc

My battery's been maintained all winter inside the house, but you'll want to check water level in it just in case.

Then just check all the lights, fire her up, and awayyyyy we goooooo....

 

I seem to be missing something here. Why did you mention the middle gear with the oil change? Is that a seperate oil system?

 

No, but it is a seperate drain bolt. It's a PITA to find - but it lets you drain the last of the oil out of the back of the engine...

If you lie on you back on the shifter side, paralell to the rear tire, look up at the centerstand... you'll see a bolt head that seems to have no job...

I'll have to look in my haynes/other manuls for a picture.

Here's a pic of the middle gear drain plug and it's location.
It is recommended that you drain this each time you change the engine oil, in both the owners manual and service manual.
