Head too loose...

    I am convinced that my head is too loose. I don't know if all XJ's are like this but the 85' seems to have a "key" locking the two nuts together that I assume I would use to tighten the head. I am under the impression that they move seperatly once the key is removed.

    Anyone have any information on tightening the head that I should know...

    Yes, once you take out the locking ring, the notched nuts will move independently. The lower one loads the bearings, the upper one locks jams it in place. The locking ring keeps the jam nut from backing off. A pipe wrench can be used in a pinch (no pun intended) if you lack the proper hook wrench.
