Need some help and advice on frame painting

    Got my xj650 stripped to the frame and need a good link or some tips about frame painting. Google wasnt really a good help in this case or maybe im searching wrong. Anyways anything i paint tends to start chipping after a couple months and I want to do this right but don't have the money to powdercoat.

    Actually, I had a friend tell me today that powdercoating is cheaper than painting. He got an entire car frame done for around 350 I think. You would have to strip the whole bike, and then all of the paint off of the bike though...

    Oops, forgot to say that the advantage of powdercoating is that it doesn't really chip! It is indestructable! Not really, but a lot less than paint.

    Powder coating is the best stuff since sliced bread. Lacking that, epoxy polymide is the next best thing. I use appliance paint myself with excellent results. Be sure to get good bonding with primer and a good wipe down with a tack cloth. As for the stone chip issues, clear self adhesive film cut to size should do the trick after your done painting. Just be sure to get it in the right spot the first time, do overs suck!
