It seems like alot of the times, i'm one of the youngest members on here.

I'm sure there are other younger members.

Just curious as to ages of the current group of posters.

i'm 26. from a small farm town in nebraska. Grew up with mechanics in my life (my dad had a car repair shop).

I've been able to hold my own for awhile, built my first go-kart at 12 (designing, welding and everything). Rebuilt my first 305 when i was 15. Did an JDM engine swap when i was 17.

I've also been into computers all my life. First real computer job was designing a website for Ratheon (sp?) parts for airplanes. Then onto designing and programming a Trucking dispatch & brokerage system.

I helped start up a computer company, Ibusol Computers, 7 years ago, since then and 3 owners, the company is no longer.

The first of this year, I opened Grand Island Computers. I now own my own Car repair shop (Hunter Auto Sports), and also do mods to cars, cosmetic and performance. Will be introducing motorcycles to that as soon as I become familure with them. And Grand Island Computers, alot of business clients where i goto their business and am the "computer kid" that fixes everything.

It allows me to be a Mr Mom and stay at home while the wife does her Nursing stuff.

The best part, spending every day with my awesome 2 year old son. He started walking when i was 9, talking full sentences since 18. can count to 5, and knows most of the alphabet (though not in order). He'll also be riding motorcycles by the end of this summer. I got him a Razor PR200 electric minibike last year and rode him on it, this year i'm getting him to ride by himself. in a few months the training wheels will be off!

anyways, that's my life in a nutshell right now, how about yours?

30 here in Milwaukee, WI. I'm a full time web developer and a part time hacker. I grew up in a "real" neighborhood where people look out for each other and you never really got away with anything.

My dad is of the Wire-and-Duct-tape school of mechanics. He kept our old International running all through grade school, but we never seemed to have enough coat hangers...

My mom grew up just down from the old HD plant in So. Milwaukee, and all of my uncles rode. They all also drove truck and abused their bodies enough that they can't ride anymore. I haven't seen any of them since I bought the Yam, but I'm sure they'll have a few choice words about my little XJ.

No riders on the wife's side (until her sister started riding last spring), so it took some work to convince her that motorcycles don't spontaneously explode when the rider sits on them. She still doesn't love my bike, but she's getting there.

I guess I could mention I've built several hot 302s and 305s in 5.0 mustangs and third-gen camaros. Grown up working on cars, just taking my first crack at a street bike, enjoying it so far.

On the 26th of June this year ... I turn the BIG SIX OH !!!
    60 Years Old!

Who'd of thunk that a old, bald, fat fart like me would still be riding and tuning motorcycles instead of playing Golf or Shuffleboard, someplace.

I'm still having fun twisting the Throttles on two Bikes, though ... and will probably have some kind of Bike until I'm too old to throw a leg over the seat and too weak to push the Start Button.

    43. I married off my first born yeasterday.s One down one to go.

I'm an over educated Registared Nurse. I work at a small, rural, critical access hospital in Scotland SD as well as work as a nurse consultant on staffing matters and do the traveling contract nurse thing when I need to get out of dodge for a while.

I'm a ADD adult without exaggeration. I have more projects than Chicago.

I sail Hobiecats and sunfish. I'm building an old jeep trail rig. I design and built custom home HIFI speakers, real ones that take up space in your livingroom, unlike Blose systems, mine actually produce high and low frequencies. I build a paddle cedar stip kayaks too.

I also do "house of worship" sound system consultation as a hobby.

I'm a pretty busy guy but I aways find time to ride when its not freezing.

I'm preparing for two weeks on the bike the last week of may and first week of june. Should be fun..

We certainly are a pretty diverse lot arn't we but have a great mutual passion. How cool.

There was a thread on here a day or two ago about kick starters and why they were phased out. Much as I liked to kick my bike's over and as someone said it did look cool I'm bloody glad my xj has a button, us old farts would never get going else.

    Anthony - 17 Years Old ... just a kid!

Listen, Brother ... the easiest way to get you Mother on-board is to do the Motorcycle Riding Adventure ... RIGHT!

Get the literature from a Safety Course near you and leave it where she'll be sure to see it and read it!

Sign-up for the Course, take-it and PASS it with Flying Colors.

Get the GEAR for riding. A GOOD Helmet and Jacket.

Show your Mon you are serious about safety and live by being safe on the bike. Never mind what you see other kids doing on their bikes. Sooner or later the ones who show-off and speed and do wheelies crash their Bikes and wind-up riding in an Ambulance while their Bikes are hauled-off to the Junk Yard.

Be Cool about it and you can get you Mother to ease-up and let you be a biker.
Promise her you'll always be safe ... and,

    KEEP your Promise!

Anthony, the best giver of advice in this forum is Rick "the been there, done that guy". Follow his advice to a 't'. There is nothing as important as your safety and while there is no doubt biking presents risk, it also presents opportunity. At 17, how you address and manage the risk will demonstrate to supporters and detractors that you are making mature decisions and you know the score.

When I was 17, my mother told me that if I came home with a bike, I had no place to stay. That was her way of telling me that I did not know the score and would more than likely end up as a stain on the highway. Now, at 50 and 10/12ths, I have such a deep appreciation for my freedom machine and life in general that I am glad mom knew me so well. You can't enjoy anything when you're dead. Mind you, at 17, I was more like 15 and with you asking these questions I have a feeling you are further along than I was.

Now you have the chance to prove it: know the score, get the facts, get trained, look after you and watch everything else like you'll die if you don't.

A friend told me that the best attitude was to be "cooly enthusiastic". Good luck with your quest.

I was 42 when I bought my 1982 xj650 maxim brand new at the dealership. Now I'm 67 & a half. The xj has less than 13K mi on her; but I've put over 100K on bigger bikes (2 Ventures and a Harley) The xj sports a current license & insurance.

Thanks Rick and PSteele, it's no that she thinks I won't be safe, but rather she does not trust the other people on the road. I tell her if that's the case, then I can't drive either, or go to school etc...

She just thinks I am her baby lol and wants me to "Be safe" but I will always do that to the best of my ability.

I already have a bike jacket and gloves as well as helmet; I want to also get some pants soon.

I just want to jump on and go! lol. But one day shes cool with it, then she sees something on TV, and bam!; "your never getting on that thing!"

I'll hit 47 in September. I'm selling my Harley next weekend. It's paid for and I spend so much time on dirt bikes with my son (18 in three weeks) and, this year, my wife (she has a new TTR230 in the garage....just has to learn to ride). The Harley collects more dust than miles so, even though it was my love, it's going. That means the XJ650 will be my regular ride for now. I picked it up about 4 years ago as a practice canvas for cutting up a bike and making it my own. It's now a lowered, single seat, bobbber type thing. Got it on the road last year and JUST got it so it would start cold (enrichment circuit...clean it!) about two days ago. Now I can focus on tweaking some of the minor issues, like different bars, painting the exhaust and highway bars, fine-tuning the carbs, etc....

Oh, yeah. I'm in upstate NY, too. About 30 minutes south-ish of Ithaca.

    Come oooooon, SPRING!
