Title: How much $$$ for professional re-jet?

I have an 82 XJ750 Max... It has a Vance&Hines 4-into-1, and I want to get the individual K&N filters. Does anyone know approximately how much it should cost for a professional cleaning/balancing/jetting on the carbs? I'm sure they need cleaned, and I know they'll need jetted after the filters. Anyone have any experience with the Dynojet jet-kits? Would that be a better option than to spend the money with a mechanic?

Why not buy a decent set of Morgan CarbTuneII carb sticks and ColorTune Fuel mixture gauge for $120 and clean your own carbs? That way in the future, you can do it yourself rather than pay a questionable mechanic. Also, if you need a YICS tool, you can buy one from Mike (see front of XJOWNERS.COM for info).
As for jets, you might find a set on Ebay. Jet kits are hard to find now and could cost $50-100 cause our bikes are over 20 years old.

Mr fork and others, Jet kits are not that hard to find, can even get them from a dealer if need be. Some after market sourses are not making them but they are out there. I would also suggest doing the carb clean and jetting yourself. It is not hard to do, and the fullfillment you get when done is unmatched.

DynoJet makes a jet kit... about $110. I'm not so much worried about the overall cost of tuning it as I am worried about doing it correctly... I was raised on fuel injection and can handle just about anything, but carbs kinda scare the hell out of me because I have very little experience with them. I want this old beauty to breathe again.
But anyway, the dynojet kits come with new slide springs, several sets of main jets, new needles, and even drill bits to drill out the plugs so you can access the mixture adjustment screws. I think I may go ahead and try it myself... I'm sure it'll be a strange but rewarding experience. I actually already have a vacuum guage... and I even have an air/fuel ratio guage and an oxygen sensor. Maybe I'll pull the vance&hines pipe off and discretely weld on some bungs to screw in the oxygen sensor to each primary... thus allowing very accurate settings on each carb. I'll see what I can do.

id say around 200 bucks or so.
i had one place tell me it was 600 bucks to take them apart, clean them and put them back together, not counting any parts that you may need after that.

200 sounds about right to have it done, but like i said they are not complicated. just do one at a time ,you will have the others to compare. :o
