Yeah, first bike. I had hoped to avoid carb work, but I guess I'll be pulling them asap.
Been sitting for 3 years, so prolly best to clean em out.

About the oil/gas from crankcase vent..
My xj had the same problem (thats why i got it really cheap).
Some of the XJ:s have a petcock with a Primer function, so if you turn it "off" you end up filling the entire engine with gas. There is 3 "modes" (my technical english isnt too good) on the petcock: Res, On and PRI! No off mode... Make sure thats not your problem.
