Title: Seat -replace, recover?
Description: Gel, JC Whitney, local upholstry?

jpentz - July 18, 2005 03:15 PM (GMT)
My butt hurts!

I'm tired of my seat, it hurts my butt, I want to sit a little farther back, and the cover is separating.

So do I replace it with a JC Whitney seat (link below)
http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/ItemBro...014438110002400

Buy a gel pad from JC Whitney (link below) and have a local upholstry shop install the gel pad and recover the seat
http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/Product...el%20seat%20pad

Or pay the local upholstry shop to rip the whole thing apart and make me a new pad and cover?

Any experience with the JC Whitney stuff?

Other suggestions?

Jeff the Numb Butt...

i'd say get the new seat but if you got a cool guy that recovers stuff like that i'd rather pay the little man then the bigger company because he can more then likely get a better fit seeing your size. Only bad thing is the seat looks one piece lol hope im not showing my butt here :ph43r: ps looks like seat is one piece that mean you have to unbolt to to get to battery?

Maybe recover the seat with the jelpack? :)

Seriously, my seat sucks too, but it's not too bad. It's in near mint condition for a 23 year old seat too. If I did recover it (wouldn't buy a new one), I would try to keep the original pattern, but definately improve the foam/custion.

I would probably try to find someone to recover the stock seat. They might be able to trim the foam to allow you to sit back some.

When we brought home my Maxim it was ugly. It was green with a white unicorn on the tank. Rice Rocket painted on both sides of the tank. Leather fringe hanging from the bars and a big WHITE seat.

We bought another seat from a motorcycle junk yard. I think it is the same kind of seat for sale in JC. I'm not 100% sure. Well anyway, I seemed to sit more into the tank with that seat. I liked the white seat but it was white. Then my brother told me that you can change the color. I bought some vinyl spray at a local store and now the seat is black. I also changed the tank and side covers to black. Now I'm planning to air brushing the tank. Not sure what to put on it. It won't be a unicorn.
LOL. Maybe a Rocket?

Just make sure the seat fits you or you might grow to dislike it. I grew to dislike the seat that we bought at the motorcycle junk yard.

I'm sure I didn't help. Good luck anyways....

I looked at the JC link. I was thinking about another cover that JC offers.

Just my 2 cents. I have an XJ1100 and suffer from the same problem of not being able to sit further back. The problem with trying to cut out foam, etc. on these seats; is that there is a hump that comes up into the seat from the pan. This is to fit over the TCI. You can't move back on the seat because it will hit you square in the tail bone. Trust me, I've tried. You can have a custom seat made, but this will run you anywhere from 3 to 5 hundred dollars. Good luck.

i was lucky enough my bike came with a corbin seat!
i would like to show it but i see the pic gallery is empty...why?
i went to corbin.com and they fix ur old seat for about 75% of original.
but its good to see i can get another one easy enough! :ph43r:

I got a travelcade replacement cover from bikebandit.com because it was the best deal i could find. Of course the damn thing was so freakin' tight that I had to trim a tad off the seat pan corners, but it's been on all year and it looks and feels great.
