Title: Chrome Gas tank Strip
Description: Replacemant Available?

singingotter - September 11, 2005 03:31 AM (GMT)
The PO showed me a picture of the bike when he first bought it and I see that the gas tank had a chrome strip that went around it. Of course it's not there anymore, he said after a few years it wouldn't stay on anymore. Is this part still available, or has anyone found a suitable replacement? My tank & bike would look much better with the strip back on.

Thanks!

Probably be able to get something to replace it from a hardware/automative store.

All it is is a strip of metal that was folded in half that followed the rough narrow edge on the bottom of the tank... mine is still on but I have to keep making sure it is tight - it likes to slip off. Crimping it on harder seems like the only real answer - that or some serious glue.

Mine had something that covered the tank seam on the front half of the tank. It was held on with small clips.

I think you could use door edging from any auto parts store. Stuff comes in colors too.

What I found that worked very well was truck door protectors. It comes with adhesive down in the groove so when you stick it on it stays!

Ahhh yes the Chrome door protectors.

I put them on my second car because I thought they were cool. Over time the clear coat peels off. Then you go to pull them off which in turn rips paint off.

The previous owner of my bike "Bobed" the tank, essentialy grinding off the useless seam. I believe he may have rewelded it, but Im not sure. The tank doesnt leak, and it looks MUCH better/smooth.
