Title: New mufflers in spring
Description: muffler options

Darrell Dean - October 4, 2005 02:04 PM (GMT)
I will be looking at new mufflers for the spring. Both mufflers on the bike had small holes when I bought the bike this fall (small is now getting large). I am not willing to support our local Yamaha dealer with the purchase. Price as well as attitude of the store.

Any options on the best muffler for a '82 XJ 750 SECA? I am not looking to put a loud set of pipes on the bike, just a replacement for the original mufflers.

Thanks

Darrell

MAC makes a few - some people have questioned their quality. I don't know about that personally. What I do know is that OEM pipes are friggen expensive - probably pay you to put 2 pairs of MAC pipes on - and by that time the rest of the bike will be nearly 30... maybe more.

I have not looked yet, but would assume the mufflers are a clamp on style and not welded in place. Can anyone confirm?

The headers slide in - the mufflers slide onto the down pipe at the crossover/box.

Shouldn't be welded but many old bikes have them welded.
