Most all of the photo editing programs have a resize on them.

There is a great little image viewer that has some image editing capability called Irfanview. it can be downloaded from
www.irfanview.com. It is a very small download and takes up very little hard drive space once installed. You can resize images very easily in this program. And the best thing about it is it is FREE. If you get this program and need any help using it, just post here and I will aid you in any way I can.

MS paint also can resize pictures - just save them as jpegs at the end...
It's built in for all windows users and is good enough for this project...

Thanks for the info. I have my kodak software that came with my camera, but as far as i can tell it only sizes down to fit email. which I tried, but this site said it was still to large. And if there are other options with this software i have'nt found it, but then I'm not all that computer savvy. I'll check into your ideas and see what I can come up with. Thanks again.
Ps. I have been taking my pictures with my camera set to best picture quality, and think it may help if set it good quality. It should make my images smaller. I just got the camera a few months ago and still learning.

For an avitar you need them really really small... Something like 50 across ?
I can give a detailed way to do it later in paint - of to a meeting - woot.

woot, I messed around with paint for awhile but I cannot figure out how to reduce. When I go to attributes and put in a size or pixels that I want, it just shows the upper left hand portion of the picture that size, but not the object of the pic. Not sure how to get the portion of pic I want into the little block. If that makes any sense. The requirements of this site says it can be no larger than 128x64 pixels or 25kb
Thanks Richard

The basic thing to do - make a copy of the file and name it blah.jpg
Open blah.jpg
Go to attributes and see what size it is: Let's pretend it is 1600 * 1400
THE BORING MATH YOU JUST NEED TO GLANCE OVER!
So now we need to know how much smaller we need to make it to get it to 128*64
Notice that 64 is half as big as 128 and that 1400 is more than half as big as 1400. This means that the limiting factor is the height.
1600/1400 = 1.14...
128/64=2
We can see that 64 goes into 1400 just about 22 times. If we divide both 1600 and 1400 by 22 we get:
72 by 63 (something that would work) so we need to make the image 22 times smaller.
Now - MS paint won't shrink an image by a 22x but we do know that 63 is 4.5% of 1400.
BACK TO MS PAINT
So go to "Stretch Skew" and type in 4.5 for both -- but wait it won't let you do a decimal number. Fine - tell it 4 and it will make it too small. Then get the .5 back by making it 150% of it's current size.
Sure that is a bad example because the numbers didn't work out evenly... but that's how it works - pick a good starting point and adjust from there.
Easy example.
Your picture is 1280*640... you need to "stetch skew" it by 10% to get an image 128 by 64 - perfect!!! :)
