Title: A work in progress
Description: rebuilding XJ750RH

Hello to all, I've tried for the last 7 years to talk my wife into letting me buy another bike. The last one I owned was a 1981 CB750K,sold it in 1985. :( I had given up hope of ever getting another bike until my kids are grown and out of the house. Then one day a few weeks ago my wife came up with a brilliant idea, "Why don't you buy another bike?", she says. Well, instead of wondering about the sudden change of her convictions, (Are you trying to get me killed Dear?), I went out and bought a nice project bike, a 1981 750 Seca. :D

The motor is free, and with a little pushing the bike by hand and popping the clutch, I freed up the clutch plates, and the tranny is free. I've got the carbs off, ready to rebuild. Needs a new master cylinder for the front brakes, thinking about using the master cylinder setup from a CB750. Why did Yamaha decide to tuck the master under the front forks anyway?

The fuel tank has quite a bit of rust in it, (planning to use the electrolisis method to clean the tank out.)

And a few other items that a 24 year old bike, that has been sitting for 9 years in a garage, would be expected to have problems with.
Already getting a few ideas here on this forum to make the repairs. I'm glad I found you all.

Oh, and I have to find a way to get a clean title for it, the guy I bought the bike from, bought the bike from someone else and didn't get a title for it. Anybody know how to get a clean title? File for lost title, file for salvage title? Do you have to file for these in the state that the bike was last registered in? Or can you file in any state?

Brake lines ( definately change the fluid) need inspecting...

Also you'll need fresh rubber (may I suggest my personal favorites - GT501 Dunlop )

battery - a given

Oil change and filter as soon as possible... otherwise - ride her like you love her!

I’ve got the same bike. I’m using the master cylinder off an old 750 Interceptor, no worries. I think that Yamaha used that goofy cable-operated front brake setup just for looks, so as not to have a brake fluid reservoir cluttering up the handlebars.

Anyhow, Good Luck!

Congratulations on your new Seca. I had a friend who had title problems and his insurance agent straightened it out for him. He got a bonded title from him. Don't know if this works in every state but it is worth a call to your agent.
