Ever since I got my bike I wanted to change the stock rear. I chopped the fender with a hack saw and added a cutom made cateye taillight with 3 fuctions. After the wiring issues I dealt with my taillight was good to go. I move on to my signal lights. when I installed my signals they turned on but didn't flash. I had an extra 2 prong relay that I bought for my CL350 but never used. I put it on my XJ expecting nothing since the relay for my XJ was a 3 prong relay but it worked!!! That means shes ready to hit the road again. Here's some pics of what she looks like now. Let me know what you think.
Next is some carb/manifold work. I think I have an air leak. My iddle RPM clims up as she warms up.
After that let bring on some paint!!! Anyone ever do rear sets on an XJ before?

Your "number plate" setup probably doesn't match the look of the bike quite right (just the color/style of the number, really), but other than that, I really like your work. The seat looks custom--stock pan? Looks like a fun way to zip around sunny CA.

Platkeyboy- You nailed it it's a stock pan just refoamed and reupholstered.
Pretty easy to do. Tollaly beats the stock seat look.
I have seen alot of nice seats made out of stock pans. I encourage you guys to try and make your own. The bars are a set of clubamn bars I got on ebay for 20 bucks. As for the plate set up I don't want to give the originals up :D.
Tonight Im ridding her to Vintage Bike night here in San Diego CA.
Some nice Cafe Racers out here.

    Hey mate,

    Lookin' good.

I'm trying to get my bike looking in that direction. I'm keen to change the side panels to something like yours. And yeah they look better all black.

Do you have any close up shots of them? I'm interested in how you've attached them and if they are flat, ie do they need to have a concave to accommodate the gear poking out from behind?

The rear end is interesting too.

    cheers

    J
