What is good food to travel with on a bike trip? What will keep in a tank bag or backpack?

Summer sauage or slim jims work well, beef jerky. anything that isn't going to be effected by heat of the sun beating down on it all day..

Tuna fish, egg salad, ice cream .... basically anything with dairy :p

haha just kidding. I would agree, dry foods like jerky, trail mix, crackers, etc. or if you can get your hands on some MRE's they're pretty much indestructible.

The MRE's are a great idea. Especially if you can get the heaters to go with them. Hot food in a few minutes with just a little water.

If you have a way to heat water (a single burner stove) you can always eat dehydrated hiking food canned stew, chili, ravioli, etc.

None of the above? You can always eat tuna, chicken, etc. from cans or pouches. Use mayo, ketchup, and mustard from individual serving foil pouches so you don't have to refrigerate it.

The problem with jerky is that it has such a high salt content. Very convenient though.

For $3.00 you could always stop at Wendys for a side salad, small burger and a small chili! Chili tastes good!

You're on an air cooled motorcycle. I could think of a place to heat water.

When I put together my list of food when I'm out to summer festivals (which is "rough camping" (although I do use my beater camper) there's no running water, no electricity, no warm water in the shower stall. The only thing I do have for any heat/cooking/is my small stove.

    That all being said..

    I usually take some:

    potatoes
    box of capn crunch
    ground coffee
    box of dry spaghetti
    pouch of salt
    pouch of sugar
    some ears of corn
a few gallon jugs of water
some extra money to splurge for some chicken or steak tips one night.
    box of mashed potato mix
    a bag of twizzlers
a bag of cheapo english muffins

Granted, I'm not on a bike trip, but it still is the same concept. I look for things that keep 'indefinitely' for the most part, are easy to fix, and are high in energy/carbs/etc..... plus will stay in the stomach and keep you full for awhile.

    FWIW,

MRE's are great -- if you're looking to clean out your intestinal tract.

When venturing into the unknown, I always bring 64oz of water, some trail mix, and a can of something (soup, stew, tuna, something animal proof).
