I just got this bike to fix up and some one has been "working on it" well I need to fix everything they touched. My first problem is I have no spark. I have power to the coils and it turns over fine but no fire. Think its the ignition control module ? I know it needs a fuse box this one is falling apart but all connections are good when testing. Thanks

Did you check all cylinders for spark?
One coil fires 2 cylinders, the other the other 2.
It may narrow down the issue.

Get to replacing the Fuse Block straight away. I've had good connections that just didn't work no matter how good I made them.
Do you have a manual on this bike? Best investment you will ever make on these machines.
    Adding to Hound's list...
Do you have power to the TCI?
Do you have access to a Dwell or RPM meter?

Ok, Ohm out the pickup coils and the ignition coils. They should read about 650 and 3 (across the input connector) ohms respectively (+/- 20%). If they are sound, check for voltage. You should see a pulsing voltage at the ignition coils (viewable with a dwell or frequency meter) when you engage the starter and 12 volts through the pickup coils. Nothing? Time to check the TCI. Voltage should be seen on red/white wire with the ignition on. No voltage, you most likely have a corroded relay (sidestand relay is the first likely culprit) and/or a sticky sidestand switch. Clean and replace as needed.

Well put the carbs on and no start only popping through the carbs (1 & 4). I only got fire on one coil :x I guess I'll check my grounds first and go from there. :?:

And check out your coils, spark on one side of a coil indicates a bad coil/ignition wire.

Sorry to disappoint but I'm not an expert (if I were, I'd be making heaps o' money). I know just enough to get by.
Texas, just a thought but try swapping your coil input connectors and the high tension leads and see if the no spark condition follows or remains on the one side.

Well I got fire but I need to ask a stupid question. When I got this bike it had no coils and I'm not sure I got the plug wires correct so I think the left coil supplies 1&4 and the right 2&3 but I'm guessing and if I'm wrong that would explain the backfiring out of the carbs and exhaust.

I think it needs some tweaking but I know the basics are there. I hasnt been registered in 7 years so there is going to be some issues. Thanks for the help I'm sure I will need more before its all over. I did a compression tes and its 145-150 so I think it has some life left in this old girl.
