Im going to be attempting to install my air box soon. I've read a couple things about using a heat gun and 'folding' it. How exactly does this work?
    What other methods are there?

I'm really hoping I don't have to move the engine as ive also ready may be necessary.

    Thanks

What I do is heat the flat sides and bottom, and fold the back end of the square part up toward the front.

With carbs, boots, starter, and clutch cable mount out of the way, I can finagle it in from the right side. Once in, heat the box back up from inside the top and carefully unfold it and smooth out the plastic.

You may want to play with an old airbox to " get a feel" first.

    Or, pull the engine....... Again

I was able to change the air box on my 83 750 without any folding or heating.

Air box goes in BEFORE motor.

Yup, it sure is. When I heat mine and fold the back in a bit, it slips rig in and out without having to wedge, hit with palm/heel, etc.... Slip right in and out .
But..... That's what works for me.....

FU's video is great, and that technique works. One thing to note; the screws that hold the intake boots to the head are fairly soft and might twist off instead of turning, which is why most of us don't remove them uness we are replacing the old boots with brand new.

Blunt, yes I fold up the back of the filter area. Now, when I say I fold it up, I don't mean that I watch the whole thing up I just folded up enough so it slides out easily. The few times that I hit the box with my hand like was shown in the video, I ended up cracking things. That's why I'd heat it and fold it out of the way.

You gotta have that old-time music playing in the background while you're removing the airbox or that method won't work! If you can play it through old speakers that produces some crackle and hiss, all the better........
