Hello, i thought perhaps someone in the chat might hep me solve a little problem. I currently have my Hitachi HSC. 32 carbs of and apart the thing is there is no mention anywere really about this what appears to be a brass washer just beyond the threads inside the pilot jet chamber. I tickled it a little to see if it would come out like a washer would. But it seems to be fixed. Apparently this brass looking washers function would be to slow down the jetting. Now 3 off my carbs have this part. One does not. As a result the one yhat does not hase a much bigger chamber area. What the heck is it and whats the function? Thanks fellows and ladies. I gotsta know.

is this the area you are speaking of you can see the brass insert that is in the tube it does not come out its function is to meter the fuel into the passage where it mixes with air.
the thread posted below explains each circuit in the carb.
if we are both talking about the brass insert and you are missing one you may need a new carb body

Not all of the inserts are brass.

would the non brass carb insert result in a bigger chamber as the fossilbike states?

    no. I missed that part.
Also my comment was not specific to the HSC32, just that not all jet inserts are brass.

Hello and thanks for responding. I saw those images you talked about. Is the pilot jet i unscrewed from the top of the tube independent of those brass jets underneath them? Or did they break off when i unscrewed them? And i cant explain for the life of me how one is missing. The one thats missing is just the inside part not the upper piece you unscrew. I should have said im talking about the PILOT FUEL JET. NOT THE AIR JET.

You didn't break anything off as long as you have the threads. The main jet screws into the emulsion tube.......the idle jet screws into the aluminum casting.

I can't say that I have looked, but I don't believe they are available as an individual if you are looking at the part in xj550h's post.

The pilot jet has no needle under it (the pilot needle is up top near the enrichment plunger). I'm beginning to think that you are confusing the two jets. The pilot is further from the float needle and sits higher in he float bowl (shortest jet in the pic), and the main jet is closer to the float needle and sits lower in the float bowl (tallest jet in the pic)

If I'm wrong, and you really are missing the insert that sits under the pilot jet, you can't get them separately. It was pressed in during manufacture and not considered to be a replacement part. No spares were offered for sale by Hitachi.

Thanks for reply. Im in the right place. In other words yes im sure were the pilot fuel jet is. So this insert inside the chamber whats the function? And do you think it possible it fell down inside? I cant see it down there. But for sure its missing. Do you know what they look like?

If it's gone then it's gone (exceedingly unusual for that to occur). You'll need a whole carb body.

Like k-moe says, it is gone. It had to have been removed as it is, like, literally impossible for it to have fallen into the carb body. You mention earlier that it looked like a washer so,I don't mean to harp, but are we all talking about the same thing? Is it possible for you to provide a picture?

You have to upload it to a hosting/sharing site. Go to photobucket.com and open an account (free). They have a tutorial about how to use the service. Alternatively you can e-mail the image to me and I'll post it. You'll need to clear your inbox so I can get my e-mail address to you.

The pressed-in insert is there, but I think I see that the threads for the jet are missing.
    What say you all?

Ok, threads are there. Just the photo. So thats what it looks like. 3 of my carbs have that one does not. Just imagine that brass looking washer is not there. Or i can send the pic without it.

As I suspected. You need a replacement carb body.

This, for me, is an entirely new sort of FUBAR.

Could be that the jet was stuck, someone drilled to use an extractor, and pulled the insert out in the process.

Either way that is a crappy thing to foist off on someone, whether the carbs were purchased separately or with the bike.
