So...... amazingly, I was able to finish the complete tear down after the last pic here, and I was able to extract every jet, o-ring, valve, screw, etc... without marring a single thing. Just for fun, I'm going to bring this rack back to life, and am thinking to go full-bling with it just to take this rack in this condition all the way to the top.

You probably won't see an update for awhile, but somewhere along the line I'll post it again here.

This picture is great. It clearly shows the jet that causes so many problems while trying to clean.

I dunno what all that crap was but doubtful it was actual rust. Rust requires ferrous metals; there really aren't any in an XJ carb. Neither brass nor alloy rust; the amount of "rustable" metal in a carb is not enough to have been the source of that mess.

Geez Dave, that set is almost as bad as the set I gave you from the flood bike Seca 650. At least this set didn't have the hats rusted through.

Agreed, John........ and I haven’t done anything more with that yet— I still have one rack I’m I’m finishing up that has turned into a hassle for me. It’s almost done and will be able to send it out soon though. Then I can play with that nasty rack for a bit again
