I have recently purchased an XJ650 DynoJet Stage 3 Jetkit which includes needles and jets.

As my exhaust has seen better days I am looking at purchasing a MAC exhaust before it turns up.

Will it matter what system I go with? I am looking at the canister or tapertip chrome exhaust.

Has anyone had experience with these Stage 3 kits? I know I'm in for a tuning nightmare as it is, but anyone's input would be great.

NZ-not really a nightmare at all. Pretty straightforward. My dynojet kit had good instructions with it. You will need access to the mixture screws. If the anti-tamper plugs are still in place, be very careful removing them. You will need to drill them out, so dont drill too deep & damage the top of the screws. My kit had recommended settings to start with. Stay with the stock airbox, dont go with pods. Use the less restrictive exhaust if the Mac mufflers differ. Good luck.

Out of curiosity are you using the K&N RC-1824 Pods also how is your carb held in?

I'm using a off name free flowing cone. Carbs held on by stock boots. May work on a bracket but haven't designed anything yet

Wanted to follow up with this post.
Why did you recommend "no pods" (K&N RC-1824 Motorcycle Universal Chrome Air Filter)

Has anyone had bad luck with these K&N filter?

    1. Experience.

    2. Track record

    3. When 9 gazillion people that insist on going to pods find out that they are a hassle, and the performance doesn't improve ( and in most cases LESSENS), and they go back to original equipment----it speaks volumes

Unfortunately, although the stock airbox may not be the most aesthetically pleasing design, it has been engineered to deliver the correct volume of air at the correct velocity for the engine. The companies that manufacture pods do not engineer their product to make your bike happy. Therefore, all the testing and jetting of carbs will have to be done by you. There is a "Pods Success Stories" thread somewhere, it has been done, but it's much easier not to.

I have a Uni foam filter in the stock airbox with Wolf aftermarket exhaust. The sound of the combo is awesome!! I have just installed the 6sigma jet kit and they recommended changing main fuel jet and keep stock air jet, and some fuel screws adjusting. My problem right now is that its winter here and I have to wait 2 months to try it!
