Thought this would be a fun topic..

I don't have too much to add as far as today goes, but I am planning on scuffing and repainting my tank semi-gloss black.

Today? I rode it home from a friends house where it started to downpour last night and he gave me a ride home. Also yesterday, I washed my tank with gas at the BP station. I am a moron.

Unpacked my saddlebags from the trip that I took though Sequoia National park and Yosemite National park. Only used two freeways and they were both less than 25 miles. Only went on the same road twice, They were not thru streets. First one was Kings Canyon, the second was Glacier Point. Wish I would have kept the mileage but the Canadian speedo that I spent a small fortune on would have kept working. Now I need to clean the bike and change the oil, AHH next weekend. The Seca Turbo is actually a nice sport-tourer

I finished-up the sculpting I needed to do to make my former Midnight Maxim's seat comfortable, good looking and no sliding forward, now.

That and I cleaned and de-greased the whole bike getting ready to do the pimping-out it get's for the annual death-defying ride to Loudin, NH for Bike Week.

Well yesterday I rode my baby for around 8-9 hours over 700+kms (including stops, actual time on the bike was about 7 1/2 hours)

Great day for a ride too.. considering it's winter here :p

Pulled plugs. Looked good. I've got a stripped screw on one of my turn signal covers, so I pulled the assembly off the head lamp mounts....Started thinking about getting rid of my bendy stays wrapped in black tape....Still thinking.

yesterday and today, 82 xl650 Maxim, got my 8,000 mile 600 dollar project machine running sweet. Bought as DOA, no spark, electrical harness been hacked on, carbs had been hacked with, but bike looks sweet.
With help from this board, replaced ignitor box, and both coils that I got locally from a lady that has 3 parts bikes , 60 dollars for all! PLus a little relay under the ignitor box that was missing 10 dollars, now the high beam works! Took the carbs off (by far the easiest carb removal I've ever done) noticed that somebody cleaned red varnish out of them not long ago, cleaned them again, took them all apart, mixture circuits where leaking gas into #2 so bad it dripped gas out of the collector pipe, put those back on, read for 2 hours on various sites whether or not I should make a YICS tool 8O for mixture and vac settings, decided not to after thinking more about it. Set them, then drove it down the road! It was high 40's with wind chill in Ypsilanti Mich yesterday do didn't go far, but far enough to see it runs gooood! Taking it out today to cruise on. Oh, changing the oil now.
Going to detail it again. My 6 hondas will be irately jelous at this point!!

Drove it to class in the AM, broke a signal light, repaired the signal light, removed RS bar-end mirror, glued the RS grip on (kept sliding down), capped the bar on the RS... Drove it to Canadian Tire, Replaced the bulbs in the signals to brighter ones.

    Then it started raining.

Should have answered this one yesterday (new shocks / bushings and lowered bike).

Kontiki, what shape was your brake light switch in when you replaced it? Was it in pieces or intact? Was the spring broken? I'm interested in the carcass if it is more or less intact. Picture?

I finshed drilling out the brass plugs on my 550r (my old dremel cooked, had to get a new one) and adjusted the mixture screws all to 2 and just a touch over 3/4 turns.

I made a mission to Advance Auto and didn't find what I wanted but did find a replacement antifreeze recovery tank that will make a perfect gas tank for synching and later colortuning. And it was only about $8.

Then a trip to Home Despot  for parts to make a manometer. Got that then found out here I need a 4 way tee to complete it.

I think I can get a tee at Lowes tomorrow or at a pet shop in the fish supplies dept.

I'm looking fwd to tomm. PM.

Therein is the problem we face fixing bikes-up by guessing what could be wrong by reading what the person on-site thinks is wrong ... and has tried doing.

We have to be "Sleuths" ... instead of Technicians.

A good deal of the Posts are like games of "20 Questions"
    Eventually, we figure-out the answer.

That's because all the Regular Contributors work like an Emergency-room full of Doctors trying to save the life of every patient brought-in by ambulance!

    And we're doing a dam-good job.
We have put nine pretty darn-good, tuned-up bikes on-the-road, this month.

And a couple more ain't far from being returned to "Active Duty" before the end of the week ...

    I hope!

Tonight I plan to Synch the Carbs.

I'm going to pull apart my newly made 4 line manometer and covert it into a 2 line bottle/loop line. It's been almost 2 weeks and I want to ride it again.

So correct me if I am right (that's what I meant, I know how forums work :? )

I'll use the rope/rag tool to block the YICS first.
Synch 3 and four, Synch 1 and 2, then synch 2 and 3.
    Repeat and Rinse.

If you are hooked-up to all 4 Carbs:

Set the Idle using the Idle Adjustment Rod which serves to open #-3.

    Then:
    Sync 1 -to- 2 (Adjust #-1 Screw)

    Sync 4 -to- 3 (Adjust #-4 Screw)

    Sync 2 -to- 3 (Adjust #-2 Screw)
1 & 2 are attached and will BOTH Match 3 to finish adjustments.

Well I did 1-2, 3-4 then 2-3... Clymer suggested that way.

WOW was that puppy out of synch! Some carbs took 2 to 3 turns to get synched with the other. I wonder if someone in the past turned the 1 and 4 screws just fiddling around.

Now it idles without choke, and power is much better. I stopped to adjust my mirrors and forgot to drop gears. I pulled away and up to speed in 5th gear. From a dead stop! It took a moment, but it pulled away.

    Next:
-Work on the front brakes, since they no longer are good enough with the new power, as if they were good enough before.

-Then debug the noises in the front. Replace, lube cables, make sure there's no more buzzing. The pod centered racket drives me insane.

Thanks for the advice from everyone. Without the info from this site I would never have been encouraged to do it. It was easiler that I thought, well worth it and fun too.

Took the carbs off... tightened the screw that holds the idle adjuster on and levelled them to the intake side....

Now hopefully that will sort out my hunt for idle issue
