So I have a 1981 Maxim xj650. I'm trying to keep my build simple with few different modifications. One thing I don't like on the 650 is the gauge set. Would a 1985 xj700 fit swap out with the 1981.

Wiring is different, mount is different, fuses are in the 700 cluster/650 fuses are under the seat, your 650 tach is mechanical/700 tach is electrical, 650 turn signal indicator is a single light/700 has left and indicators, 650 does not have a low-fuel light/700 does

    There's a list for a starting point

I can't guarantee that the cluster will fit in the space behind your 650 headlight housing either.....

Unfortunately I decided to stay with the original gauges.

You could us a Viper Vapor gauge like I did. It works great and cost is very minimal. Just need to wire it in.

    Hey Dave
Have you got any black Midnight clusters with a good back housing hiding in that collection?

Actually, the 750 Seca has an electronic tach, 2 turn indicators and a fuel gauge. Fuses are under the seat though. Still, might be interesting to use the 700 Maxim gauges on a 750 Seca to create a more naked look (especially with a lowered headlight).

Yeah, we know that.... The list was a partial list and a starting point for the previous conversation. Yes the 750 Seca has an electronic tach, just like the 82-83 xj650's, etc.....and others
