    I was working on the wife's 550 yesterday and discovered this. not sure how that could happen.

    Just guessing but maybe someone didn't realize that the bolt has to pulled out, not just loosened, and went apeshit trying to wrestle it off. Really can't see that happening under normal braking force.

    looks like the same direction too! perhaps this mystery is solved. good thing I had a spare and I didn't just start riding this bike. that stressed lever could have broken off at the most inopportune time, like when I really needed to stop!

    Idk about the 550 but the 650 has a cotter pin through the nuts on either end of the stabilizer bar. Also (mostly for members new to shafties) it is imperative to properly torque (around 80ft lbs) the rear axle shaft nut in order to pull everything tight and help align the rear wheel. Mis-alignment of the rear axle will cause the wheel to rotate on a angle and stress the stabilizer bar practically rendering it useless. Some of the results is shown by cyclenoob. Glad you caught it.
