    well....
Speedo's are not universal, each speedo has a specific gear ratio inside it.

it may be correct or it could be way off.

i picked up a speedo at a junk yard to try on my seca and after hooking it up, i took a test ride.

in second gear low rpm the speedo said i was doing 95MPH, wrong ratio.

Now.. This is not a game ender, there are shops around that setup/install speedo correction gearboxes
it's a small little "gearbox" that converts the incoming cable spin to the correct ratio for your speedo.

15 years ago my brother had one installed on his 78 chevy after he drasticly changed rim and tire size.
it seems like it was around $35 bucks.

Ratio AdaptersWe stock and build ratio adapters for mechanical speedometers.

this should take care of it and give you a "high speed" Speedo.

So how does one know what gears are in each speedo unit?

In your case you contact the manufacturer of that speedometer. Honestly you can buy much better for not a lot more. A $15.00 speedometer isn't going to be a quality item. Heck, the sample in the picture has several obvious manufacturing flaws on the mounts and casing.

Right I can defintiely agree with you there it looks of terrible quality. But I've never seen anything like it. Haven't looked either haha was just Curious. So is there a known gear ratio our bikes are set at?

should be able to figure it out by spining the tire around once and counting the turns on the speedo cable.
(good in theory) i have heard that is how you check differential gear ratio's.

sorry gents, that's the end of my know-how on that subject.

There's also the inside of the speedo to consider . Turning the wheel simply tells the ratio of wheel turns to cable turns.

I put something similar onto my Seca. The speedo I purchased did not have the neutral indicator etc on it, but it's close to what is on this link. First time I started the bike the needle LED blew. Rode the bike during this last summer with it like that. This winter I cut the speedo open and replaced the LED. There are issues no dought with quality, when I opened it up found that the board is your typical Chinese quality. I had to add some insulating between the board and the housing or the LED on the needle would blow, had to change out the Needle LED twice before determining the solution. Other than that issue the speedo is accurate on my bike.

    Don't know what model you have, but for my 82' XJ750 the correct ratio is ;
    60 mph= 2240 rpm
    100 kph=2330 rpm
