Just curious, mid 2014 a report of a Midnight Maxim was liberated from a Portland, Oregon owner. Was that bike ever located and returned to the rightful owner?

    I'm curious too,
I would think it would be difficult to re-title and sell (so the thief would make money)
and the prospects of selling parts from a 30 + yr. old bike are a bit slim,
considering he needs to dump the frame and engine asap,
that leaves him with a few hundred dollars worth of E-Bay parts.

wow. funny i stumbled across this. about a week after the insurance company paid me for it and i sent in my title, i found some huge dude riding around on it. i got him to pull over and the cops showed up. no arrests were made? i don't get it. the bike was all dented up and missing some turn signals. huge dents in the tank where they leveraged the gas tank open. it was leaking gas all over the place while he was pulled over. cops showed up.. then a tow truck. it was towed to a salvage yard. because i no longer had a title they would not let me go see it. i contacted the insurance company and they ignored me and i could not get any info about if they were auctioning it off or when. thats where im at today. thanks for checking in.

God bless insurance! we're required by law to have it, but they can do whatever they please. It's nice when the government backs your scam.

I hope your Insurance payout at least covered the cost of that bike to you in money terms, if not in emotional terms. Hopefully that fat punk who stole it gets some sort of payback for that lousy thing he did to you.

Bummer! Out of curiosity, which insurance company? I need to re-up my insurance in a few months and it would be nice to know whom treats bike owners this way.

Once the insurance company paid out on the claim they became the owners of the motorcycle. Even after recovery they really have no reason to do anything other than sell the remains at auction to mitigate their losses as quickly as possible.

Good thing you didn't own it anymore.....you know you would have gotten a fine for the gas spilling, considering how screwed up everything else went.
