Dad has a XS1100 he hasn't touched in 15 years and he's trying to figure out what to do with it. I'm not entirely interested at the moment, but if he decides to try and get a couple hundred bucks out of it I may jump on it. It's a 1979 Special, and is in decent overal condition; ran well when he parked it, but he ended up moving, getting remarried and life went on and he, for whatever reason, kept dragging the thing around.

Found the bike pictured when doing some research on XS1100s and am in awe. I know there is a bit of customization on said bike, but does anyone know if those rims, seat and grab bar are original?! I'd love to, over time, make an identical XS11.

That bike you've found there is totally non-standard.
It belongs to an English bloke living in Finland called Shappers and you'll find more about it over on the XS1100UK forum.
This link here http://www.classic-japanese-bikes.com/Yamaha-XS1100.html with his bike pictured must have been written by someone who knows nothing about the XS1100.
You'll be hard pushed to make an identical bike. The seat and tank are from the Sport as is the engine. The wire wheels from the TX750 are like rocking horse sh!t, it's also fuel injected and has got a non standard front end. The exhaust is aftermarket. He has spent loads on that bike, hope you've got deep pockets if you want to copy it.
Send him a message, he'll be well chuffed.
