Time and energy, parts, etc..... alll add up to a LOT of money............

    BUT.........

to many of us NO amount of money can take the place of being able to say

" I did it MYSELF " (the collective xj-owners included, not a greedy MYSELF) with chest-busting pride/sense of accomplishment.

I'm already looking for parts for an EFI swap. Found lots on the cheap.

Once again......another thread that got dropped over 3 yrs ago-----and what WAS an awesome start to a potentially awesome process (though expensive) got dropped, too. Oh well.

It's a fear that lingers for a lot of us. Thinking of doing an awesome project and stranding it near the end. I personally wouldn't invest in such a thing but I could see why this OP'r did it. Hats off to him for that. I respect that. For me, I'd save up, and buy something else. Still love the XJ's. The engine is just bullet proof. My accident is a testament to it.

What I wish for even more, would be: that when someone starts a big thing like that, but then goes a different direction and discontinues a project, would at least stay long enough to give detailed account of where things were at, and just why the project was dropped, so someone else could pick up and run with it if they wanted to do so. To bad when people just drop something and leave everyone else just hanging.....

Agreed. It would make the purpose of this site that much more complete.

Just read through this: as someone who fuel injected and ignitioned an old mini for a degree project years ago I have some insight to this. (For mine I built and wrote the code for the "ecu" , which for anyone in the know was a Microchip pic 16F877).
The point about cost vs benefit is largely neither here nor there, its about learning how, and achieving it. For a std carb'd engine I would say otherwise don't bother, but if anyone is turbocharging then a mapped efi system is a must.
I can't see how it might increase the value of any xj, might make it perform better on pods though;)
