Hey guy new to the forum and new to motorcyles. I have a 82 650seca. The bike turn on sound good but when I hit the throtle and the rpm drop back down it will drop down to far and die. After warmup with choke off.

idle knob.PNG have you adjusted the Idle knob to proper Idle

or it could be a pilot jet problem thats what gives you your Idle , have you cleanded the carbs yet?

No I have not was messing with the throtle ajustment got it to hold a good idle but once giving throtle it would drop down below where it was set if I give it just a little more throtle it would sit at idle and not die

Let me guess. You just bought the bike. The previous owner said it ran great and he kept up on all of the maintenance.

    He lied.

    GO here: http://www.xjbikes.com/forums/index.php?threads/the-information-overload-hour.27544/

Read it, then begin the process of making your motorcycle safe and roadworthy.

At the very least you will need to check valve clearances, and from the sound of your symptoms clean the carbs. Also do a thorough examination of your brakes. The rear shoes can delaminate with age (not a good thing) and the front system likely has the original hoses which should be replaced along with rebuilding the master cylinder. It seems like a lot of work (and it is), but each task is realtively simple to do.

you mean the adjustment at the throtle grip?
thats not for adjusting idle. the thumb wheel knob under the carbs is the idle adjustment

and you will need to read info overload great stuff found there

look here the knob between the two center carbs in first picture the third photo shows the knob and rail

Set the idle speed with the bike warm using the wheel between carbs - crouch down beside the bike and you'll see it - perfectly positioned to burn your hand when you try to adjust it. A lot of people and bike shops do it with the bike cold because they do not wait for it to warm up properly even though the manual is clear on this. Happened to me many times.

So I found where the adjusting knob is but the bike would not start seem to be electrical. At first the rear brake oil light and turn signals where all coming on. The headlight neutral light where not coming on and that bike wouldnt even attempt to start. So I disconect the battery check fuzes removed the gadtank look at the wires and removed the headlight. Now nothing coming on. I end up moving the cylender thung right next to the battery and got the oil light for a second I belive that the problem number on it 12v1124. Reading. Information overload eletrical system right now. O and it a brand new battery maybe 3 days old
