Chain lube likes to collect under the cover. Clean this area to see if you have a leak. There is a seal behind the sprocket and the neutral switch. Please add what bike you have in the signature line. We know you have a 550 because of the chain drive.

do you know how to adjust the chain?
this link is about my brakes but in the photos you will see the chain adjusters at the brake drum.
you have to loosen the rear axle to adjust the chain. I used a caliper to set the distances equaly on both sides of the wheel

For a 550 is it a 530/104 chain? And factory sprockets is it 15t front and 45t rear?
Thanks! Figure this may help him as well as myself lol.

Start a conversation with user Chacal. He has exactly what you need at a fair price.

    seems like a 530 chain is a bit of a overkill for a 550, doesn't it?

530Heavy duty with 104 links is needed.the 530 chain when I looked up the specs for this chain 500 cc is maximum size bike.
530 heavy duty will go to a 750cc

your oil level is to high check it through the site window with bike up on centerstand.
you could have fuel leaking into the crank case.

how long was your 550 sitting unused before you got it.
what work have you done on the bike besides the chain?
your posting in the wrong forum you want the technical forum, repost there with a link back to this thread you will get a better response
